Sigh to all the other answerers. If you don't know, then don't answer.

Dogs sweat. That's why you see footprints on the floor when they walk someplace. I can't say that ALL dogs sweat out of the paws, there may be 10 dogs with a genetic anamoly that doesn't allow them to, but it's normal for most dogs to.

However, this mode of perspiration is not very effective, so they also pant. The evaporation of the water off their tongues and through their nasal cavities helps to cool the body. Their tongues do not sweat - there are not sweat glands on the tongue. But, they do help with evaporative cooling of the dog.

Dogs DO sweat from their feet and they also pant to cool down. The water from their tongue evaporates to cool them down (just like sweat evaporating from your skin cools you down).

They don't sweat through their paws, but they do secrete an oily substance which they use to mark their territory (in addition to urine). You see them scratching at the ground with all fours - that's what they are doing.

It has NOT been proven. Please see link for more details.

no nerve fibres reactive for cholinesterase have so far been definitely demonstrated around the eccrine sweat glands in the paw of the dog. .......

I don't think they can sweat at all, that's why they open their mouths and stick out their tongue and breathe hard. It's the only way to cool their bodies down.

dogs don't sweat period (sweating through the mouth just is anatomically INcorrect too). they release their body heat when they pant.
