"Oath breaker" or "covenant breaker" is one of the likely etymologies of the term. It's that second one that gathers a bit of attention.
See, the first one - that's the standard that most Pagans use, to represent a back-stabber (or, more often, someone they want to throw out of the coven/group due to whatever interpersonal issues pop up.)
But the second definition can have a different implication. Sure, it can be read the same as the first - but what if the "covenant" being mentioned is the Christian covenant (as in, "Ark of the Covenant")? Many Pagans are, after all, baptised Christian while still children. I've known some Pagans to self-identify as warlocks in that they acknowledge formally breaking the Christian covenant that had been made in their name. A rare usage, perhaps - but not totally unheard of.

A warlock is one of the 9 classes in the popular online game World of Warcraft.
I have a level 60 Undead Warlock and I rock the house.
Warlocks don't exist in real life.

You are welcome to change the definition for yourself. But, a warlock is a male witch. Many people will define witches as bad people.
BTW, if you have already decided what something is, then why ask the question? You certainly have a strongly held opinion that will not be changed here. So, asking this question serves little purpose.
