I dont understand how anyone can dismiss the possibility of there being some kind of higher power as we have no information to dismiss or support it. I do understand how we can dismiss things such as resurrection, ghosts, or miracles as there is zero evidence to support such claims.

No. I started calling myself an atheist, even though I'm more of an agnostic. They will put us all together as 'the wrong ones', and it would take too much trouble to set that right. Let's start by answering their questions if they apply. And when it's all a little clearer, we can start the other discussion.

So where is your evidence to support a higher power? I haven't seen any yet.
I don't much like being called an atheist either, there's always The Brights, you could start to call yourself a bright, that is an umbrella term for atheists agnostics humanists etc.
If you haven't looked up The Brights why not check out their site and find out about what they represent and are working towards, plus you can discuss issues like this on their discussion pages.

ONE (God) is like a bowl of all-bran, every morning you wake up and IT's there.
"Agnostics" are cowardly "theists". or cowardly "atheists". I can't make up my mind which one...there's no proof either way....
Does that make me an "agnostic" lol
Think about it, make up you mind and live with the consequences until it's time to change your mind and think about it again. But for the love of ONE, make up your mind!!
The word God is the Problem...The ONE replaces GOD and is scientific and includes ALL and I have no problem with being a believer in ONE, the UNITY or ONE-ness of ALL. With God, I have a Problem....To much myth, tradition, authority, and all the other sins such as "jealousy, favouritism, nepostism, anger, envy, lust, power, war, crime, murder etc..
The ONE being numeric, not gender-based, and not emotional just IS WE ARE ALL ONE...
ONE is great...If you look at life long enough, you will realize that all LIFE is ONE....ALL MATTER is ONE...ALL energy is ONE...
God is the Problem...God is a PERSON or a PERSONAL GOD!! It is a "tribal" concept and we are a "global" society. The concept of God and all the other Tribal gods, whatever their names will be given up for the ONE....the ONE is a Galactic concept...The Solar System Gods such as Jupiter, Mars, Venus etc...have already become myth...There are only a few representatives of a few minor tribal gods (myths) that refuse to let go of the people and are causing all the wars in their "death throes"....WE will be "GLOBAL' and we will expand to the stars and we will be "GALACTIC".
Let's catch up and become civilized all you moderates from the 'tribal" religions of the "fathers" and adherents (as adhesive, glue, sticky, stuck) of Religions of the PAST.......Its time for a higher concept than the tribal divisive "God", Allah, Jehova, Elohim, Yahweh, etc... The wars have to stop so we can focus on saving the planet......
The Goddess GAIA (earth) is calling and she needs help to keep us (homo sapiens...Wise?? man) alive. Gaia will not die, HOMO SAPIENS will unless we attune ourselves to the Goddess GAIA abd protect our atmosphere, water, food, etc...and reduce population. That means the large population countries (China, India) can't just immigrate and take over other countries as in the past... These societies have to leave the warring tribal gods of the fathers behind and limit population....
ONE IS ALL...
WE ARE ALL ONE....
