It depends on how quickly you want to lose.
For the old advice of 1-2 lb a week, figure your current weight X 10, then subtract 500 calories for 1 lb a week and 1000 calories for 2 lbs a week.
Example: Weight 230, currently eating at least 2300 calories a day. To lose 1 lb per week, eat 1800, for 2 lbs eat 1300.
Personally, I prefer something that works a lot quicker like Kimkins, but use the formula above to calculate your average intake.
