Hey everyone,

I am supposed to be running a discussion for 30-50 eager youth. I am just looking for some youth issues we can discuss, geared towards north american or canadian. Any suggestions would help to get me started. Thanks

Check out Youth Service America's website. You can sign up for a free email newletter. Talks about a lot of programs to get kids involved in civic and rewards/support for that involvement.

Also, your city/county government may have a Youth Planning/Development agency. The one here in Chesterfield County, VA surveys the kids (high school, middle and grade) and asks them - what they consider to be youth issues. And some of the teachers/administrators as well.

Go to:
http://www.co.chesterfield.va.us/HumanServices/YouthServices/youthsvc.asp and look in the left hand column for Community Youth Forum. They published a report as a summary. Probably the same issues are relevant in your area.

Why should youth be interested in different issues than anyone else?

I am an election worker. We have a program called "youth to the booth" that encourages young people to get involved in the election process. Many current election workers are senior citizens and we need more young people to replace them as they retire. Maybe that would be a good issue.

Getting involved in campaigns is another issue. Too many people complain about not having good choices on the ballot without doing anything about it.

What does youth have to look forward too, when they are outnumbered by the Boomers (born 1944-1963)? The boomers will consume all social benefits and have us work until were 75.
"Should there be a mandatory termination of benefits at 80?"
