it says: Circle the nouns in the following paragraph and indicate if they are common or proper and wether they are concrete or ..." Do not GET FANCY" and circle pronouns; we haven't gotten there yet .

It just means to do only the basics - do not "get fancy" and do extra work by circling the pronouns, since she just wants you to mark only the nouns. Get fancy just means to do a lot more work than is necessary. If I were supposed to draw a simple stick figure but instead drew a 3 dimensional figure and colored it in, that would be getting fancy.

i would have to hear it in context to know for sure, but it sounds like it's along the lines of "do not get snobby" or maybe not getting complicated. that is not a normal use for the word fancy - at least not that i have heard. if you can tell me how the person used it - more than just "do not get fancy" maybe i can help more.

i think it's fantastic that you are taking such an interest in learning english and you are tying so hard to do it!

EDIT:
she doesn't want you to get ahead of where you are in class - more like do not show off.

it sounds like slang, what situation is that being used in? That can be referring to a number of different things, for example if the person is referring to a social event it may mean to dress informally, as opposed to dressing up. There are so many different meaning, that change depending on the situation.

it can also be used in the way as "dont get smart with me". Parents say it to their kids often when they are stepping out of boundaries or out of line with them
