Does anyone feel that we as a country are starting to get lazy due to the services that are offered to us nowadays?

Some examples;
- Now in a petrol station you are able to pay in the pump opposed to going inside.
- You are able to do everything over the internet e.g. banking, bills, car tax etc.

I know it is all in good nature to help make our lives much easier and convenient - BUT IS THIS REALLY BETTER?

WERE ALL GOING TO END UP FAT AND LAZY!!

These things are done for convenience not to stop us getting exercise. And I don't know if driving to the post office and standing in a queue really made us active as such.

we should be encouraged to exercise more - and not have jobs that just involve us sitting motionless in front of computers or tied to desks - that is certainly making us fatter. To comort ourselves we have the odd biscuit or chocolate bar - and that does't help either! And because we work all day and struggle home in the traffic getting home with 3 hours before we go to bed we have a convenience meal full of fat and preservatives - that also makes us fat. I think something needs to be done for sure.
What I do wonder is why everything has to be so 'convenient' all the time - yes it should save time but somehow it takes the variety out of life.

I don't own a car and find that being able to do my banking online is important as they are shutting down all the local branches. Also doing my groceries online is great because I can order heavy things instead of carrying them up the steep hill with my toddler in tow. I think that because I don't have a car I walk a lot because I have to walk everywhere but I don't think the internet makes us lazy. I don't think many people paid their bills over the counter these days anyway other than old people in the post office. Most people paid by cheque in the post and you don't get any more exercise by doing that.

I do not think it is making us lazy at all. With working hour making it sometimes difficult to get to my bank during opening hours, access to my accounts from home is great. Internet shopping means we get to "shop" from all countries in the world as well as in towns outside our own. This gives us so many more options.
As for the pay at the pump, It's just so much quicker, rather than a lazy issue. I still get out and walk my dog, go for hikes etc. I think these conveniences gives us more time for other stuff.
That's just the way these options have helped my time management.

We are already fat and lazy, that is why the nutrition and diet industries are a multi-million dollar business. Have you ever been inside college dorms? Girls, as well as guys, are o.k. with clothes all over the floor and dirty dishes and that is beyond lazy. What you see in them today, is what you will see in them tomorrow when they marry and are raising kids. Actually, this laziness will create other problems and complicate matters in a relationship and in parenting. Cleanliness in an individual is a sign of organization, therefore you can expect that person to be an achiever.

These are services aimed at improving our life.

Laziness is a relative term. Personally I think laziness is the opposite terminology of LOVE.
I will explain, if u r not doing what u love and if u r not loving what u do, u r invariably lazy.
Just see how active u r when doing something which u love. So we are not getting lazy as a nation , but we need to direct our energy more towards what we love.

I agree, but not with the examples you gave. Who likes to queue up at the bank, to pay our bills, etc. (I'm French, so we often have to queue!). It's annoying, and it's not as if you were really active when doing that!

Those things you've given as examples should actually give us more time to do things we enjoy, preferably outside. But, overall, yes, we are more and more lazy (not just in America: in Western countries in general, I think).

Although I really liked harsa D's answer, I wanted to add that we have some big problems developing, like CO2 levels. If CO2 levels are three times higher than ever, then isn't breathing going to be more difficult? That's how I have been feeling.

Regardless, we must continue to fight for truth. We must LOVE the fight. We must learn to share our intentions openly, so that we can work together. And we must not allow politics to distract us from being personally responsible for fixing what's broken.

LOVE IS THE KEY,

Our country is very lazy yes but I know that being a woman it's nice once and a while to just take a minute for myself sometimes. To a limit of course.

I don't know if it lazy or just more convenient. we have the technology to do a lot of things that once took physical labor. We need to take responsibility for out own "fat and laziness" as you call it. we can chose to be more active, it's an individuals choice you can sit around and do nothing or go have fun play. we have no one to blame except ourselves

Oh yes, we are becoming a very lazy country. It is very sad. Even our young people coming up today do not want to work for anything, or expect to have everything given to them.
