One of my cats won't let me pick her up or hold her. She stands and lets me pet her all I want but if I ever try to hold her, she claws and meows till I put her down then stands there for more petting. My other 3 have no problem being cuddled. What's up with her?

It is probably just her basic personality. Some people don't like to be hugged on either. Just accept her the way she is and love her.

Sometimes cats just don't want to be held, however if she never wants to be held there could be many factors. If she was recently adopted it could be she was mistreated, or it could just be her personality. Either way a trick i learned to get a cat used to be cuddled is swaddling. Use a blanket and wrap your cat in it, not her head just the body and legs, so she can't get out or claw you. Pet her and massage her head and face, and cuddle with her. Hold her like that for a little bit each day, gradually in increasing time periods, and hopefully after awhile she will be used to you, and you won't even need to do it anymore.

My cat Thistle is the same way. Most other cats love to be held and cuddled but she hates it. She's very smart, comes when called, loves to be petted, and over all a great pet so I just respect her decision to be independent and leave it at that.

Our cat used to be like that. It's a trust issue, as mean as it may sound. We've had our cat for 3 years and she's only starting to let us pick her up and hold her.

I have one cat like that. She wants to be petted all the time, but if you pick her up, prepare to be scratched. Some cats are just that way.
