This could be a symptom of many things, including but not limited to diabetes & Cushings disease. Or it could be just signs of aging. It would be a good idea to see your vet for testing & if you haven't already, have a geriatric profile done.

Yes, he's older - 9 is getting up there for a big dog like a Rottie. Drinking a lot of water sets off an alarm bell about his kidneys - they might be starting to fail. This is a common problem with older animals, cats too. Take him to the vet as soon as possible and have his kidneys checked. Also have the vet check him for diabetes - this can be another problem with older dogs. Drinking a lot of water can also be a symptom of that.

Has he gotten into something salty or sugary? Or perhaps rat poison?
As a general health condition, drinking a lot of water can be a sign of diabetes. Dogs who have received a lot of human food, or treats, may be more prone to developing that condition. If it lasts more than a day or so, you should consult your vet.

Kidney problems, diabetes, or thyroid issues are all possibilities. It is probably time for a senior check up to get to the bottom of it.

My rot did the same thing. Get him to the vet. My dog had diabetes. He stared getting very tired and thirsty. He started using the bathroom in the house and it was sticky. Please get him checked. My dog was only 3 but he got real bad and I had to put him down.

The obvious answer is take your cat to the vet. But your cat is showing the classic symptoms of diabetes. I would bet he is overweight and eating dry cat food. Take him to the vet, but I am sure it is diabetes

Take him to the vet immediately. These are symptoms of several different possible problems.

I would call Rodneys vet tomorrow and schedule him an appointment. Increased thirst and lethargy would certainly be a concern for me if he were my pet. Good Luck and please schedule him an appointment tomorrow.
