Try a system called Nioxin. It is actually for balding people and it not only helps keep more strands of hair in your head at any given time, it will also help it grow faster and remain healthy. It consists of a shampoo which cleanses the scalp, a conditioner which readies the scalp and Bionutrient treatments which are actually the most important part of the system. I enjoy using this line myself when I am growing my hair longer. I have tested it and it does work very well. Hair grows an average of 1/2" each month and Nioxin will increase that average. Don't forget to take your vitamins and eat healthy. Also, please continue to see your stylist to have regular, routine maintenance. Instead of having a cut every 6 weeks spread it out to every 8-10 weeks. If you skip these trims all together your hair will begin to split at the ends, and split, and split until it's breaking off faster at the bottom than it is growing out of the top and it will seem like it's NEVER going to get to your desired length.

I always use just regular plain olive oil on my hair once a week. It keeps my hair shiny and smooth. Wash it out after leaving in on for about 20 minutes. Also, I dab a little bit of conditioner onto only the ends of my hair every other day (without washing it out). Only a tiny little bit at the ends helps to keep it conditioned all day long.
