We are having our second child (BOY) in less than three weeks! We have one boy now (22 months old) and his name is Kevin. We are having trouble with the 2nd child's name! We have narrowed it down to two names. Colin or Derek. I like Derek because it's not TOO ethnic where Colin is VERY Irish and Kevin isn't AS ethnic. But both are very cool names I think. I'm also worried because I don't want to pick Derek and have everyone in his class named Derek because of Grey's Anatomy!!! (do you think that's an issue?) Our last name starts with F and ends with Y. Help. I'd love to hear what you think! Thank you!

My brother's name is Colin, and while we are from England, nowadays people don't see that name and think "That's so ethnic!" It's is becoming somewhat popular in North American society; you don't have to worry about people thinking something like "Oh he MUST be Irish!" That's silly. Personally I think Colin Brendan sounds better, because I hate the name Derek...but I don't like either of them. I like the sound of Brendan Derek better. And no, Grey's Anatomy is not an issue...it's not like that name just came out (like when people started naming their kids Dawson around Dawson Creek time).

I like Colin better. It has a nice ring to it and it's less common than Derek. Seems like there are a lot of Dereks running around out there. Colin also puts me in mind of a cuter guy than Derek. Don't ask why, that's probably just me!

COLIN
Gender: (male)
Origin: Celtic, Greek
Meaning:

DEREK
Origin: German
Meaning: Ruler.

I think Colin would be very cute....think of introducing your kids to someone...."here are my two boys, Kevin, and Colin" to me, that rings a bell! Maybe you could try different ways to spell Colin to make it seem less ethnic...Hope I helped!!!
