I'm only 13, andmy cat is a male, he's about 5 or 6 years old and kinda fat. I love him soooooo much, but lately he throws up a lot!!! I tried giving him bath and found that his fleas were really bad and sucking a lot of blood, so i tried to get him to eat some soft food, but he won't eat. I gave him some flea spray too. He's become extremely weak, and can't even walk on his own. He keeps gagging too. I want to take him to the vet, but my family has no money, anyone have any ideas?PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Also, if this is the end, and i think it may be, can anyone tell me how to deal with losing him, because I can't stop crying now, and hes not even gone yet!

Your cat needs to go to the vet. He is suffering, and it is cruel not to do what you can for him. I understand that money is tight, but there are options, some vets take payment plans, some banks will give a small personal loan to help with emergency expenses. At the very least, if there is no way to afford diagnostics and treatments, love him enough to end his pain quickly.

A lot of these comments are mean.. she's 13.. where are the parents?!?! In any case.. tell your parents to take you and kitty to the vet. Almost all vets will help with a payment plan or something, they are animal lovers also! You should really get some Frontline or Advantage, the sprays and things from WalMart aren't a great solution for all of that. Be optimistic, the cat is fairly young and if you get treatment, all should be well. Good luck!

I don't know what's wrong with your cat but he sounds like he's suffering a lot. You should take him to a vet and if you can't afford much at least have him put down. That should make it easier for you to say goodbye to. Knowing that he isn't suffering anymore should make you feel better. Some places will also take the pet on as their own and treat it (my vet did this with a couple of diabetic cats who the owners couldn't afford to treat). So that may be an option. I would call around and explain your situation and see who can help. Good luck.

Is your cat fixed? I had a very beautiful long haired white cat named Mr Spoon. He was only about 2 years old, and he started throwing up a lot and he got skinny, and wouldn't eat. I took him to the vet because he just wasn't feeling any better, just kept throwing up. The vet gave him blood tests and he had FIV which is Feline-Immunodeficiency-Virus... in other words. It was AIDS or HIV for cats. It happens in males mainly, they get it from blood mainly, kind of like rabies. The unfixed males fight for the female, and they pass it to one another that way. It's not very contagious though, it's about 5% chance of passing it on to another cat in the household. I understand you can't take him to the vet, but FIV is very treatable, some cats with FIV live longer than healthy cats because of how unexposed they are. Eventually it does kill them, but it's just when... you never know. I know how you feel about not having enough money to take him to the vet... a lot of people are in that boat. He could have worms, which in most cases doesn't cause a lot of problems, but can cause internal infections in the worst case, and anemia. He could be severely allergic to fleas. My cat now is allergic to fleas, and when he gets them he throws up and loses his hair, but when I treat him for them, he gets better. Whatever you do, don't give your cat milk. Cats are lactose intolerant, it would just make him throw up even more. Just make him as comfortable as possible. Next time you get a cat, I would suggest getting a female, as females rarely get FIV, and maybe keep the cat inside so it doesn't get sick, because you can't afford to treat all of its bumps bruises and illnesses. Your cat could even have FeLV which is leukemia, and it is VERY contagious, and can even live on your clothes or your skin. I don't recommend getting a new cat for a few months after yours passes, if it was something you were considering. I can't tell you how to deal with losing an animal, it's really hard. Just know that what happened to your cat isn't your fault. When my cat died (over a year ago... 9-22-05) I felt very guilty and like I could've done something to save him, but you couldn't. There was nothing you could do. He had a good life, he was loved, and he was better off than a lot of cats out there who never find a human to care for them and love them like you did him. It'll be easier when he goes, than it is now... you've already started the grieving process, and at least when he does pass away, you know he's no longer suffering... which makes it a little easier. Good luck, and I hope you feel better... I know it's really hard to lose a pet. I was in the same situation as you a year ago.

And yes, please keep us updated, I'd really like to hear how it works out for you.

Is there a Humane Society or animal shelter in your town? They might help you for free. Also, please try calling a vet, explaining your situation, and see what they can do for you. Have your parents already said no to a vet, or would they be willing to help you if the vet would take payments?

Keep us updated. I'm sorry you and kitty are going through this.

If you can't afford proper veterinary care for your animals, you should not have pets. The cat needs urgent medical care, and if it's not provided, you could be turned over to the authorities. Take the cat to a vet, and work out the payment plan later.

Sometimes when cats throw up it is fur balls. Vaseline on your finger, let him lick it off, will sometimes help it pass.
