I have over a 100 tattoos all over my body and fully sleeved. Yes it hurts cuz if it wasn't for the pain everyone would have one. More painful different parts of the body, plus what's painful for one isn't for another. Mys chest and elbows were the worst for me, top of the arms no problem, back of the arm more painful. It all depends the exposure of the body part. My back, felt more like road rash.
We have 7 layers of skin tattooing generally goes approx. 4 layers deep. Go to a studio, ask to see there portfolios, hang out for awhile and observe whats going on.Ask if you can purchase your own needles....just to feel more comfortable. Ask to see there enclave. If the place looks dirty, leave, should be the first thing you look for once you step foot in the door. Hepatitis now a days is rare....TV shows are going to show you that stuff as a common occurrence cuz there anti-body art. Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions.....if they get to ugly about your questions leave, your there to spend money on something that is for life. Don't go to the first studio that you see or that your friends go to, shop around, don't it on impulse. You want that place to be as clean as a hospital operating room, and you want the best artist that you can afford. Look for degrees in art and tattooing on the walls. Hang around long enough each place you go to see some finish work. All this is timely but you'll be glad you did, you don't want some shoddy work done. Being your first tattoo you want a really good experience. Once you have decided on a studio and an artist make an appointment if necessary, put food in your stomach, no sugars or caffeine or alcohol. Once you get tattooed and your happy with all the above mentioned things, stick with this artist just like you would stick with a hair stylist. Don't be afraid, be excited, the hype maybe worse then the actual event itself.

it really depends on how tolerant u are to different types of pain...All pain is different. Getting a tattoo feels like getting scratched more then being stabbed and after a while ur body becomes tolerant to the pain almost goes numb to the pain and youll be ok. as far as the Hep. C that is highly unlikely I have 9 tattoos and i've got em all done except maybe 2 or 3 from different ppl and theyre all clean so unless u go to the back of an alley and get one ur fine and most tattoo artist, upon request, will allow u to see the sterilization process.. Good Luck! you'll enjoy heck, I'm addicted to em..lol

Yes it hurts, some areas of the body hurt worse than others. Bony areas are the most painful.
The needle doesn't go in very far at all, if I had to describe the pain it would be like getting stung, or tiny pinches over and over again. The good news would be that after the outlining is done, your usually to numb to feel most of the coloring or shading.

Depends where your gonna get it. I have 5 and they were all differant pain wise. But i'm not gonna lie it is alittle painfull. But after about 10 min. your skin goes numb and ya' can't feel it no more! It's not that bad. I'm a BIG baby to pain, so if i can do it anyone can:) Plus, once you get one you'll most likley get another! Just do it you'll be happy but make sure you pick out a safe and sterille place. Always watch them take the needle out of the bag and make sure they wear gloves...

If the general public knew the risks of developing hepatitis from needles (yes-professionals , too ) they would be horrified . A tattoo is forever . Give it some deep thought first . Also , those colors fade and run years from now . Some shades disappear altogether - not to mention mis-shapen and just plain unsightly down the road .. Sure , it's a fad now ; but do you want to pay for that fad the rest of your life ? I've seen one being done and it obviously hurt and took a long time to heal -with messy scabs ; but that's not the worst of it .

Yeah, it hurts in certain areas. I have absolutely NO tolerance for pain, but with a personal cd player, a tattoo I designed myself, and a reputable shop, I got thru it the whole hour and a half it took. And LOVE the way it came out! NO regrets!

Sure it hurts. But the pain subsides as soon as the needle is lifted. No real residual pain. It cuts deep enough to make you bleed.

I thought my first one hurt at first. But as the session went on i got used to it and the sound of the gun, tho annoying, is kind of soothing :) By my 2nd and 3rd tattoos tho it was just like going to the doctor for a check up...hardly any pain at all. Plus a majority of the pain depends on where you get it and how much fat/skin is covering the area. (for reference purposes i weight 112 lbs) The one on my lower back hurt more as he got closer to the spine and further out on my ribs. The one on my stomach and calf didn't really hurt at all.

the needle goes about 1/16 of an inch in. as for the pain, that is up to the individual. i have 5 so far, and barely felt anything. however, i have seen the big bad burly biker type walk out of a tattoo parlor with tears streaming down his face after getting ink!!
and i read some of the other responses. the one about hep-c is a bunch of hooey. if it's a reputable shop, they will not only break and properly dispose of the needle in front of you (placing it in a sharps container), but they will autoclave the gun as soon as your tatt is complete, leaving zero chance of any sort of infection.

Don't know how deep but my mother told me they do use alot for just one line and a tip.
Don't drink before you get one or you'll start bleeding when they stick the needles in you.
