I was walking down the street yesterday and a dirty old bum asked me for 5 bucks he said he was hungry. I watched as this dirty stinking bum went into the liqour store and bought 3 bottles of thunderbird wine. my question is should i go back there and beat the daylights out of him or should i wait until i see him drinking and pour his cheap wine all over him???

Want to see some real drunks, wait till Tuesday. The Republicans will hand out booze for votes, some parts of town you won't be able to stand the smell at the polling places. You can beat those guys up if you want. How you land your wimpy tush in the clink is no concern of mine.

I rather have a bum on the streets then a spiteful person like you.
put yourself in jail before you get hurt.
Truthfully these people already have nothing but they are still fellow americans. Save it for people like Bin Laden who want to kill you not grovel for 5 bucks.
His booze is probably the only escape from the grim reality of life he lives in. He has no hope and being beaten is expected. Won't do anything to him but only makes you feel big.

No...I feel sorry for these people...They are so down on thier luck, and it's a way for them to escape alittle I guess....Now I'm not saying that I agree he should do that! But maybe instead, if you ever see him or anyone else like that, go get an actual meal from somewhere and take that to them. That way you know they have food for the day and they can't "drink" your gift to them. I think it is such a shame in America to even have one person living like this. You can't get a job without an address and clean clothes. And if he can't find some kind of help, or they are all full if he does, then how does he clean himself untill he gets a first check and it probably wouldn't be eough money to even get a place to live. He would have to work awhile to have enough to get a place. We really have to come up with something to help these people more. Please have a heart and imagine yourself in their situation. It must be awful......

First off, karma is karma and he will get his.
You don't have to take karma in your own hands and do either of those things.
Next time, if he or some one else asks you for money because they are hungry, offer to buy them some food and actually buy food for them. That way, you know if they really need the food or just want the money.

Also - on a side note, I have discussed this issue many times with others and a few years back I asked my Rabbi about a similar incident.
A friend of mine was at the bus station and someone asked her for money to get a ticket somewhere. She said, sure, let's go to the booth here and we can get you a ticket to where you need to go. The person then said, well I am really just hungry, I need some food. So, my friend offerred to take the person to eat and get them some hot food.
The person then said, well, can't you just give me the money for it? At that point, my friend knew that this person really didn't need the money to get anywhere or for food, so she said, I am sorry, I won't just give you money, but my offer still stands on buying you a ticket or taking you to get food. That person then walked away.

So - I told this story to my Rabbi and he told me, that whatever it is that person needed the money for is none of our business.
The torah says that if you CAN afford to give something to someone who does ask you, you should.
If you can't afford too, then it is ok not to.
I debated this with him, and he confirmed that if someone, anyone asks you for something and you CAN give it to them, you should. That is a mitzvoh and what the torah reads.

So - that is my two cents. Sorry this is sooo long, but hope that helps in your future decisions!

neither, that was your fault. You shoul've figured for yourself that he was going to drink that money up. Most wine-o's are depressed and look for that feel to nub them so they don't have to realize that they are stinking bums. Take it as charity by giving him a free trip from misery. Plus you'll be arrested.

Who care's what he spends his money on, whether if it's on an Extra Value Meal, a Playboy Mag, or a six pack of KeyStone Light.

If you don't like what you see, then why don't you help him out and get a job, feed him, and take him home to live with and stop crying?

These people are like they are because of a reason, and a lot of them are like they are because of being abused by a person like you, they find it easier to live among people like themselves than have to deal on a daily basis, not knowing if they will be alive at the end of the day at the abuse or heavy hand of someone who thinks they are more superior

I can see why you are so pissed off I would be to. Maybe don't go to the extreme of dumping the bums wine on him, but the next time give him food rather then money. Most likely he will get pissed off, that is what happened to me. I figure these fools just don't want our help but to just get a cheep high. It is sad really

Next time go with him and buy a cheap bottle of Vodka and some juice. Have a few drinks with the guy and I think you will find that he may be your father and you have a lot in common.

Neither, if you gave a bum 5.00 thats your fault, did you really expect him to go get some food? Next time you feel generous buy him something to eat
