Can anyone interpret and explain to me what these aphorisms mean?

"Keep your eyes wide open before marriage, half shut afterwards"

"Glass, china, and reputation are easily cracked and never mended well."

"If a man could have half his wishes, he would double his troubles."

You need to be thoroughly aware about the person you are getting married to.. But remember that every human being passes through lots of odd circumstances, so, don't bother about things that do not materially affect you.If you suspect your spouse, that clouded vision will show you many things that are not true. and the troubles that follow will be endless.

Character and precious possessions should be well guarded. Once these are broken no amount of mending will restore them to the original glory

It is a way of saying that God is protecting us from unnecessary troubles by not granting all our wishes.Behind each wish granted there is a series of related troubles to follow. Every Rose comes with its own set of thorns.

1. Better learn everything you can about your prospective spouse before the wedding so you don't make a fatal mistake. But once married, do NOT notice and pick up on every little thing. Don't nag. Stop finding fault. Let the little things go, because they can destroy a marriage.

2. Once your reputation has been questioned, you will never be fully trusted again. When doubt has been raised, a whisper of it it lingers forever.

3. We rarely wish for what is in our best interest.

1. Means to really know the person before you marry, their background, religion, ethics. Then after you marry to look the other way for small irritations. Living with someone is tough and there is no sense fighting about the toilet seat and chores.

2. Once you ruin your reputation, you can never fix it or return peoples thoughts back to before you ruined it.

3. We often wish for things that are really not in our best interests. Just look at all the Lottery winners who have committed suicide or are bankrupt.

I will try........1. make sure you know what you are getting into when you marry and ignore some of the stuff you see after you are married. 2.If you crack your reputation (ruin it) it is like china and glass, you can never get a good one back.3. Most men wish for things that are not good for them. (some thing like if beggars or wishes, were horses, we could all ride.).Of course you will want to check anyother answers.
