firstly it is your parents choice as they are the ones paying the bills and they are the ones who will be accepting a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to another pet...
if you do get another pet you need to know your current kitty might not be too happy about it.. but its best to get one a similar age.. if you get a kitten you have to feed them seperately until the kitten is old enough for adult food
plus when you already have a cat you shouldnt get another who ISNT vaccinated already so best to adopt an already vaccinated adult..similar in age who has been around other cats (like adopt from a shelter)
you would need to keep the other cat in a room for a week or two so your cat adjusts to the new one... you need an other litter box too
but again its your parents choice and the more you push for it the more they may push against...

Most cats prefer to be alone. She will most likely not enjoy having a new kitten around the house. She'll probably hiss at it and act very dominant and territorial, it's the way cats are. When she gets used to the kitten being around (a few weeks), then maybe everything will be ok, and maybe she'll play with it, but you never know. I've introduced new kittens to a lot of cats, and they have never been ok with the new kitten. I have a black cat who I rescued and brought home to my other cats, and they all hated him. It took them a few weeks before they were ok with him. Two of the cats actually ran away, and never came back. I only have one of those cats now, and he loves him. They're really close now, but at first it was a no go.
And yes, definitely get a female cat. A male cat would need neutered otherwise he'd spray in your house and always want outside. Also, don't get a cat the same age as the one you have now, they would fight... your current cat is the boss, and it will make sure the new cat knows who the boss is, so having another adult would not work out. Don't have 2 litter boxes, they need to get used to each other if you're going to have them both living together. The more you allow them to be separate and not interact with each other, the harder it'll be. Your adult cat won't hurt the kitten, she'll probably bat it around a little, or hiss at it, but no blood will be shed, so don't be scared of that.

Like old Cat Lady says..MOST females cats cant really get along with eachother best bet is a male and hopefully ur female cat is fixed or get the male fixed either way Bring kitty home and say PLSSSSSSS and make mom hold it hahahaha always worked for me. P.S Mom might want two females because she wouldnt want babies everywhere so theres something to think about. Good luck!! p.s i have 6 GROWN cats who did not live with each other and they all love each other very much just takes abt 2 to 3 weeks for them to get used to it.

Not all cats like to be alone. I recently took my cat to the humane society when I wanted another and checked to see which other cat got along best with her. We found one that she liked and now we are a happy family. She hated all the kittens so we ended up with another one the same age. Some adult cats won't take to a kitten coming into the house. But as for your parents, don't know what to tell you there. It is their house you know.

Cat society is matriarchal and I would say to get a male kitten or cat. Two females is the hardest adjustment to make. One HAS to be dominant and not necessarily the oldest one.

The worst thing you can do to a cat you love is to introduce another cat. Cat's are not social animals and if you love the one you have, don't stress it out by introducing completion in the house. Only kittens play with each other, not grown cats.
