Forget about all that cortizone, balmex and all the other crap...use simple Cornstarch. Works every time.

If this is a yeast infection (and it very well could be) NONE of these suggestions will help and will in fact make the yeast worse. Especially cornstarch- do not use this if it ends up being a yeast infection.
If it truly is a non-bacterial diaper rash then follow these steps- I assure you it will work:
1. Put a THICK layer of diaper rash cream on (Desitin, Buttpaste- anything with a high concentration of zinc oxide). When I say thick, I mean thick thick thick. Like you're frosting a cake- no skin peeking through.
2. Pat cornstarch all over the cream (as much as you want- it won't hurt).
This is the most important part-
3. Wipe off top layer of poop and reapply for THREE more times before using a wet washcloth to remove completely. There is NO need to wipe down to skin each time. If you layer it on thick enough then the poop will stick to the cornstarch and it should just peel off. Even if there is a little left it's ok; it isn't close to his skin so it's not hurting it. The water and baby cleansing cloths are what is making it worse. Your baby should have three bms/wet diapers before you wash him again.
And I suggest switching to disposables for now- that way you can make sure that there are no solvents irritating the rash any further than it already is.
For bathtime get Aveno Oatmeal Bath packets- they come 5 to a box. No need to use soap- the Aveno does all the work.
Good Luck!

Personally, I always found that Desitin ointment was the very best! It's thick and white, so once you put it on the clean red area, it will be difficult to wash off....so don't! When the baby passes urine/b.m. it won't burn him like it's doing now. If you're using cloth diapers, you have to wash them twice to get all of the ammonia out of them. If you wash them in bleach first, then in another wash with just soft detergent, then dry them thoroughly, that should do it. I agree with you that the antibiotic ointment will not do it. Forget the wipes for right now and use some soft soap and water on a washcloth. You can wash these with the diapers. Once the rash clears up, keep putting the ointment on the area even when there is no rash and he won't have it again. I washed diapers for 3 kids and I think the disposables sometimes cause alot of rash problems. Godloveya and the little one.

I have been told that teething does not cause nappy rash. Every one of my children got nappy rash when they were teething, so there has to be a correlation between the two. What worked for me, was zinc and castor oil cream, or zinc and starch powder. It did lessen the rash, but it was only when the teeth came through did my kids nappy rash go completely. I also found cloth diapers made the rash worse, maybe because of the washing powder etc. Disposable diapers, while they are more expensive, seemed to lessen diaper rash.

One of my children was born with a yeast infection that I thought was a diaper rash. It got progressively worse, until a proper diagnosis was made, and I had her to the Doc's on several occasions for the same rash. Finally, at about the age of 8 months we got the proper medicine. I don't know however if this is the case with your son, only a Doc could diagnose. Perhaps a second opinion would be in order.
Good luck.
Peace.

Baby gold bond powder. Trust me, I babysat for a friend of mine while she was in the hospital and the first time I changed his diaper, he screamed out in agony. When I looked down he had a really bad diaper rash, it was soo bad that some of his skin peeled off on the diaper. I went and out some gold bond powder and the very next time I changed him the rash had already started to heal. Also try having him lie on a water proof pad with no diaper for a while to allow some fresh air to get to it and prevent infection from the urine and feces

My daughter had what I thought was diaper rash. Took her to the doctor and he found the same type of rash around her eyes and in her mouth. Turned out to be low Platelets. Put her on steroids type meds. Cleared up in just a few months.

Try "buttpaste". It comes in yellow box and I got it at Target. Worked really well on my child's bad diaper rash.

IIIIIIIIIf all else fails it probably is not a diaper rash at all, and will need Lotrimin. Ask your Doctor first, but it really works.

My daughter had a similar rash and none of the regular creams worked. I finally found bottom balm at http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com It works like a charm and is all natural.

Baking soda in the bath water, just let them soak for a while. Had same problem, worked better than any zinc oxide or perscription cream. Works for chicken pox as well.
