It definitely lowers your cholesterol..Mine was over 600 and after eating a bowl a day,for three months,along with watching my "fat" intake,it came down to 206..The meds I was on didn't do that good.I took myself off the meds and tried the oatmeal diet.My doctor said "whatever you're doing,keep doing it"..Goes to show you,meds aren't always the answer.

Oatmeal is healthy for many reasons including its ability to make minor to moderate changes in your cholesterol because of the fiber; however, if your cholesterol is very high it won't do enough on its own. It should be combined with a low fat diet that's moderate to low in carbs as well as exercise. Many people don't know that a high carb diet contributes to high cholesterol. If these methods don't work then it's time to take a cholesterol lowering drug.
