One of my dogs HATES getting his nails cut, you would think i was killing him. i have to wait till he goes to sleep and then i cut away till he wakes up, pet him back to sleep and finish the job. He is little so i use toenail clippers but just be sure to not cut too short!

Very very carefully. You will probably either want the help of another person or a REALLY good chew bone. Be sure you have dog nail cutters (NOT humans) and a bottle of quick stop just incase you knick the quick. Hold his paw and cut just the last 1/8th of an inch of the nail. Then give your dog a treat. Try not to make nail cutting a thing your dog dreads, they definitly have the ability to make it very hard on you to cut them if they hate having them cut. If you accidently hit the quick, put quickstop on it and give him lots of treats. If the dog gives a fight, put away the clippers and just work on handling the paws. Touch his paw and give him a treat X10, hold his paw and give him a treat X10 etc. Progress slowly untill you can put the clipper on his nail without him worrying about it. Good Luck!!

The nail should be cut from underneath, not from the top downward. Slide the opening over the end of the nail while staying in the whitish part of the nail. The pink area of the nail is the live part and has blood vessels throughout.

If you are brave enough you can cut their nails with clippers. But if you cut too far down it starts to bleed. The best thing to do is either get them cut at a pet store like PetCo, or get them done when you go to the vets.

Pends. Use good toenail clippers for some small breeds. Best to
buy a proper canine kit from a pet store. Clip carefully, not too
deep, just enough to eliminate the sharp pointy bits, You can file if you want, but this is tedious. Better to take dog walking on hard surface, such as concrete occasionally.

1. have someone to help you
2. get dog nail clippers with the nail guard so you don't cut too much at one time
3. get a good strong light so you can see the meat inside (unless the nail is black)
4. have a stop bleed powder ready just in case
5. have nerves of steel
or, just take him to the vet!
good luck
