if u havent had an appraisal recently, start there. if your appraisal value is less than the tax value, there is a form available @ your tax assessor's office - it may be called something like 'request for real property tax reassessment'. provide them w/a copy of your appraisal. they will usually make an adjustment before your next tax statement is due. if your home has appreciated in value over its tax assessed value...keep it 2 yourself or your next tax bill will be adjusted up as well.

Sell the present house and move to a state that has lower property taxes.

1. You can find out what your neighbors pay by going to the court house and asking about your parcel number (that's on your real estate tax receipt), and those properties around you.

2. If your taxes are in line with what others pay, there is no alternative.

sorry....but I hate my taxes and they go up every year.
