I just finally figured out what flea anemia is and now know that I have lost some kittens to it over the years. I have one right now that I am almost certain has it, she has been sprayed and is in a towel but it does not look good. Has anyone else gone thru this and PLEASE, do you have a suggestion! I am holding her wrapped up in one hand now, so please hurry. I don't want to lose her!!! Thank you!!!!!!

Have you taken the kitten to a veterinary hospital or emergency clinic for animals? Yes this costs money, but if you value your pet and any other pets in your home please get medical attention and follow their instructions to the letter.

The anemia would have to be addressed and it may have gone too far, but sounds like you need some education on how to use flea/tick preventative from a licensed veterinarian and they can evaluate the condition of this and any remaining pets. The veterinarian may also want to run blood tests for other possible diseases.

Fleas are sometime difficult to treat. When treating not only treat the pet, but your home, yard, pet area. I would suggest not using over the counter topical flea products as they are not always effective and some can be harmful if your pet is already ill or is too young for that product. Also some of those products contain very harsh chemicals that may cause skin issues.

Your kitten may also have tapeworms from possibly injesting (eating)an infected flea or fleas. Any other pets you have may also have tapeworms. These need proper meds also.which the vet can provide. Also the pet could get something. called flea dermatitis which is an allergy reaction to their skin from flea bites.

If your pet has not eaten or drank anything for over a day, it can be dehydrated and can go into kidney failure from not eating.

Another suggestion is keep the animal warm, you can warm towels in dryer, microwave a few seconds or get a heating pad, set on the lowest setting, covered with a towel and make sure it doesn't overheat put that under the kitten.Keep checking periodically to make sure kitty isn't too hot. Try not to handle the pet too much as it needs rest & QUIET as little stress as possible. if you have children keep them away from the cat due to overstressing.

The above are all suggestions. I am not a veterinarian, but have had many animals also lots of experience with all sorts of aliments and work in a clinic. These are all preventative measures that could stabilize your pet until medical help can be arranged. PLEASE GET THAT PET SEEN RIGHT AWAY and any others as the fleas will infest others as well as bite you and anyone else who is living in or visits your home. Fleas can jump onto humans and be transported to other homes, yards etc. therefore infesting other pets and homes.

Listen to your veterinarian and please do not stop giving what he/she recommends. Life is fragile handle with care.

Use a fine-toothed flea comb on the kittens and the mother cat. Drown any fleas in a jar of soapy water. Wash the cat's bedding and vacuum frequently. Make sure to take the vacuum bag to the outside trash as soon as you are done - the fleas can crawl right back out. Call the vet for guidance if you can't get rid of the fleas or if the kittens seem ill.

Most of the serious flea anemia cases we see end up needing blood transfusions. This kitten really does need to be taken to a vet.

If there is a Petsmart nearby, they have 7 day a week vet care. Go there or call your vet's emergency number. Good luck.
