We are not always better. We just are more correct about the existence of any gods. We do tend to have better morals, because we don't get it spoon-fed to us. Religious people tend to be morally lazy. Note that I said "tend". Overgeneralizations are rarely accurate. Studies have also shown that while we are the least tolerated of the religious sects, we tend to be the most tolerant. We tend to be higher educated, too, according to another study. Most highly recognized scientists are atheist.

There are some atheists I know that are worse than some Christians I know. So, I won't agree with your overgeneralization.

However, atheists have a lot to be proud of. We generally stand in good company.

I wouldn't say that ALL atheists make it seem that way; that's just a gross generalization. That being said, I think there is something to be said for people who focus on what is rational, rather than basing their values in belief. In truth, I think one reason for the "superiority" label is probably based in how you look at the situation. If atheists (and not all do) see religious people as being ignorant for believing, then yes, they do see them as inferior. Likewise though, religious people see atheists as wicked, ignorant, or so on also. So again, it's too tough to generalize people in this way.

Because they are. They generally don't feel it is necessary to inflict their beliefs and ways of life on others, religious people do. If you disagree with that statement, then why is it that I receive religious mailings almost every day in my mailbox? I have never, and will never be, a religious person. Yet, everyday there is a flyer in my mailbox for some church or some religious gathering.

When you say religious people who are you referring to? The pharisees thought they were the better people. Stop worrying what other people think and start trusting in what God says about you. Why are you looking for the approval of men? That is not what true religion is

I am not an Atheist, but I believe in scientific fact, not unscientific fact. But, to answer your question, it goes the other way too, I happen to think that so called Christians are some of the most judgmental people

I don't think I'm better than most religious people.

I hear from religious people how sorry they are for me, how blind I am, how awful it will be when I am burning in hell.

It sounds like they think they are better than me!

But the fact is there are smart, considerate, accepting theists and there are rude, condemning, ignorant theists AND there are are smart, considerate, accepting atheists and there are rude, condemning, ignorant atheists.

I would guess for the same reason many religious people act as if they are better than everyone else...arrogance.

"Best, better, bested"

I think it is the fact that atheist make hard-hitting logical arguments that most faith-based individuals find hard to confront. Thus, most feel that atheist are smug in besting faith-based arguments.

Somewhat impossible to convince someone who believes in reality and facts to believe something they can only "trust" without seeing. That's the essential feature of faith.

Atheists have their good reason not believing in God. They prefer not knowing any restrictions commanded by God, so that
psychologically they don't have the quilt in committing sins which
will make them unhappy in this fanatic world, so that they can really enjoy themselves happily doing whatever they like .

It is called the "atheist's dilemma." How to live in a world of idiots who believe fairy tales? Do you treat them with respect and sympathy or shout them down for idiocies?

[edit] I wonder if I would have gotten 8 thumbs up if these people knew I am a Christian.
