If you want to put the wife's first name also.

I am very firm about "Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith" or "Mr. John Smith and Mrs. Jane Smith".

I believe that "Mr. and Mrs. John Smith" is an assault to a woman's identity. She does have a name after all! Why is it that when women get married, it's like she's just a piece of property who doesn't even deserve her own name anymore to be recognized!

Sorry for the rant, I just feel passionately about this subject.

I teach wedding etiquette in wedding workshops. The proper modern way to address a married couple is:

Mr. & Mrs. John and Mary Smith

Good Luck!

If you don't want to put Mr. and Mrs. John Doe, then put John and Sally Doe (if they have the same last name). Or you can put Mr. John Doe on one line and Mrs. (or Ms.) Sally Doe on the second line. You can reverse that, of course and put Mrs. (or Ms.) Sally Doe on the first line and Mr. John Doe on the second line.

If they have different last names, just put each person's name on a line: Mrs. (or Ms.) Sally Smith on the first line, followed by Mr. John Doe on the second line. Or reverse the two lines.

I use this method for holiday cards, party invites, etc. I usually put the name of the person I know best on the top line. Have a wonderful wedding!

Pick one (mostly we'll just tear up the envelope and pay closer attention to how expensive your gifts are on the registry list...)

Mr. John Smith and Mrs. Mary Smith
Mr. and Mrs. John & Mary Smith
John and Mary Smith
Mr. John Smith and Ms. Mary Jones

Any one of these is acceptable:

Mr. John Smith and that Ol' Bag Mary
Mr. John Smith and What's-Her-Name . . . is it mary?
Mr. John Smith and Mary, the ball and chain.

But many women nowadays would prefer:

Mr. John Smith and Mary Mary Two by Four, Can't Get through the Bathroom Door.

Hope this helps.

Just their first names then along with their last.

But most wedding invitations should really be formal. So you would have it look better if you addressed it to MR. & Mrs.
