I'm just really concerned because I has a really bad self concious problem with my weight and I'm on Risperdal and I don't want to gain weight at all so please someone tell me does this happen to everyone or what and if it does how soon after you started taking it did it make you gain weight. Please help.

I have been on resperidone (resperidal?) for over 15 years and at first I gained a little weight. I am not overweight now but on the heavy end of normal. I attribute this to the best treatment for gaining weight there is, i.e. pushing away from the table and exercise! Resperidone is an anti-psychotic and if it is helping you get rid of symptoms it is vital for your continued mental health to keep taking it. It is better to be a little heavy than "freaked out".

I was on Risperdal for a while a few years ago and I did not gain weight. One side effect I did have though was fairly major shortness of breath. The doctor stopped my medication immediately. If you have any side effects you really don't like then talk to your doctor straight away.
