Go with manual!

Depends what you prefer. Automatic is more relaxing to drive and is actually faster to all but the most experienced drivers, it changes into the appropiate gear far more quickly than a human being can and doesn't lose speed on a hill like a manual will.

Manual is more fun though, you feel more like part of the driving of the car and is faster if you really work it. Also since Automatics have gone all computerised they been less reliable than a plumbers estimate!!

Automatic for ease and comfort, however manual is probably 10-20% better on economy. The best compromise is to buy an automatic diesel i would suggest and get the best of both worlds.

Manual

Depends what you want it for. Lots of traffic work might suggest an automatic; sports car probably a manual change is better. There is a thought that anything over 2 litre is better automatic - I tend to agree.

Manual transmission
Pros-
Less complicated for the average shade tree mechanic to work on.
Able to roll start the vehicle if the battery is low.
Less expensive to replace that an automatic.
Cons-
Always having to push in the clutch when changing gears.
Harder to take off up hill from a stop.

Automatic transmission
Pros-
Able to start off up hill easier than a manual.
Put it in drive (or over-drive if so equipped) and go, no shifting gears.
No gear shift sticking up through the floor board.
Cons-
More complicated to work on.
More expensive to replace.

For me preferably manual, you get more power, acceleration, and function, but it can be a hastle in heavy traffic.
If you're looking for an easy ride, automatic is definitely easier but the "quality of drive" isn't as good as manual.

If you commute and drive in heavy traffic daily then the automatic is nice. The manual is more reliable and you get better mileage with one. A lot of men just prefer the manual too.

Depends on your wants. I prefer manual. But with heavy traffic, and no moving, the automatic would be better.

Manual, they're faster, more economical and you have more control of the engine. But if you're just plain lazy and don't mind always being 5 minutes late and filling the car up more, then go for the Auto.
