The first thing you need to realize is they have 90%+ failure rate and if you fail the service has the right to put you where ever they need or want you. Join the service pick something "you" like get the basics out of the way then ask for reassignment that way if you fail you go back to some where you like. By the way DO NOT listen to the recruiters they were just on TV having been caught lying again.
Good luck and God Bless You and the Southern People.

Bro, you've got no guarantee that you'll go recon or MARSOC if you join the marine corps. I'm in the Corps and I joined at 17 as well. I had huge romantic hopes for being a commando. Do your research. If that is what you chose, get used to being on a boat or elsewhere in the world for 7months a year. And another 3-4 months a year training all over the U.S. Get used to being very cold/hot and in miserable conditions for long periods of time. Get used to being very hungry for long periods of time. Get used to not getting much sleep and being woken up a lot when you do sleep, ESPECIALLY when you are the new guy. You better be in tip top shape (run 3 miles in 18 minutes, 20 fullrange pullups, 100 situps in 2 minutes, and be able to swim with gear and a brick tied to you. If you have a girl, you won't see her often, and your chances of getting recon are very slim as a private first joining. They like NCO's. I can't speak for the rangers. I'm not in the Army. But I do know Force recon, and the rangers are very different. Do your homework and talk to some Marines/former Marines. You might change your mind. Bad vision doesn't matter. They'll give you glasses. Nothing you will do will require you to have 20/20 vision. Ok, here's how you'll know if you'll like it or not. Take a backpack, put around 100-130 lbs of concrete in it, and walk 20-25 miles only stopping for 10 minutes every 4 miles. If you feel great afterwards, you'll LOVE recon cause that's just the beginning.

What ever you do don't ask Sen. kerry... He'll tell you to flunk out of high school.
Recon and Rangers are VERY physical. You'll have to be in top shape to hack it. Discipline is a must also. The desire to push yourself to be your best at all times. You'll also have to score high enough on the ASVAB test.
You need a high school diploma at the very least to even join. If you join in your JR year and quit school you will be discharged.
Depending on how bad your vision is will determine if you can join or not.. If your able to join with your vision it will still have an effect on your choice of MOS.
Take your vision diagnosis to a recruiter they will be able to tell you exactly.
If you are able to fulfill your desire to become Recon or a Ranger let me be the first to thank you for your service to our country.
HOOAH!

what all the other answeres are saying is correct, i also beleive you can not join either of those 2, you have to join the regular part of Army or marines first, serve for some time then try to get in. I think bad eyes might be a problem also.

Special forces aren't just open to anyone off the street. One must spend time in line units before having a crack at those.
At least in Canada, Special Operations personnel are selected on the basis of physical fitness, previous operational experience, leadership abilities, previous evaluations, intelligence, adaptability and mental health.
Basically, our Special Operations Regiment and the Joint Task Force are the best of the best, they are the very tip of a very sharp spear. I would surmise that US forces are the same way. You have to prove yourself and get some snow on your boots before you give that a crack.
