I was going 69 (officer dropped it down) in a 60. It will apparently be a $75 fine and 2pts off my license, but I would like to prevent my license from being penalized. Also, is it possible to reschedule court dates (I'm a university student, and can't show up for my said court date)

Obviously, if you plan to fight the ticket, you will have to appear in SC to the issuing court. Otherwise, you can only pay the ticket.

First of all, call the court which issued the ticket and ask if receiving a citation in their state will reflect on the driving record and point system of your state. If so, or if you already know they do, then you have only one choice to appear in court to fight the ticket. If they do not, then you can let it go since it will not reflect your record.

In some cases, the court can change a court appearance date but usually for a legitimate reason such as health issues. Ask them when you call about the driving record.

If you appear in court, Arrive early and ask to speak with the officer who issued the citation. Explain to him your concerns about points and how a higher insurance premium will hurt you financially, since you are a college student. Many officer are sympathetic to this and will help you out. Then he can suggest a lesser charge such as "Impeding Traffic", which is a "NO POINT" violation. But ask him what can be done to avoid the points. REMEMBER: you will not avoid paying a fine. Your only concern is points and higher insurance premium. The courts want their money and they will receive it. Once you and the officer agree to a lesser charge, he/she will notify the magistrate/judge. Then when your turn arrives to appear before the judge, he/she will ask how you plead and you indicate a guilty charge on the deciding charge agreed with the officer. In many cases, the judge will already have that lesser charge in front of him or the officer will speak up first and offer it. Then the judge will ask if you agree. He may then impose the cost of the fine with no points added to your record. Pay the fine and learn a lesson.

VERY IMPORTANT: This method has a better chance of working "IF" you already have a clean driving record. The courts are usualy happy to help people maintain a clean record. If your driving record is flawed, if may not work, but it still won't hurt to appear in court if you can.

Probably it will cost you on your insurence premium next time too if you have you licence marked. So the best option is taking a difensive driving course, which you can opt for with the cops. It is a three day course about a few hours in the morning. A chief trainer will come into lecture to you about difensive driving and on completion you will get a certificate of completion of the course and your licence won't be marked. I did this once in Tallahasse, Florida for overspeeding ticket. Someone advised me to opt for difensive driving course so that there won't be points taken off from my licence and thus since I was a student then it helped me to not raise the insrence premium next time. It worked for me, it should work for you. My situation was, I was at fourway junction and the car was slow since there was a hump on the road. Even then the cop who was hiding behind some parked cars came out and stopped me and gave me a ticket for 60. It was in a Housing lot so you can imagine how fast I might have been going. Try this option it might work out, you can save your points for another time if you are not interested in the insurence premium part of it.

You can petition the court for a new date ( but have to do it long before the set date) You wait a week or two before the date and most likely it is too late to reschedule without appearing and asking to resechedule

In general best to just pay it, since unless you have a good defense, you would just be found guilty anyway

in all probability it relatively is going to value you on your insurence top rate next time too in case you have you licence marked. So outstanding is taking a difensive making use of direction, which you would be able to % with the law enforcement officers. this is a three day direction a pair of few hours interior the morning. a first-rate coach will come into lecture to you approximately difensive making use of and on of entirety you will get a certificates of entirety of the direction and your licence is basically no longer marked. I did this as quickly as in Tallahasse, Florida for overspeeding cost ticket. somebody counseled me to choose difensive making use of direction so as that there is basically no longer factors taken off from my licence and for this reason because of the fact i replaced right into a scholar then it helped me to no longer improve the insrence top rate next time. It labored for me, it relatively is going to artwork for you. My subject replaced into, i replaced into at fourway junction and the vehicle replaced into slow because of the fact there replaced right into a hump on the line. Even then the cop who replaced into hiding in the back of some parked automobiles got here out and stopped me and gave me a cost ticket for 60. It replaced into in a Housing lot so which you would be able to think of how briskly i could have been going. attempt this decision it would artwork out, you may shop your factors for yet over back while you at the instant are not fascinated interior the insurence top rate area of it.
