I have an old 8mm tape from a handheld palmcorder containing family vacation, etc and I'd like to keep it in digital format so I can make copies. I don't even have the palmcorder anymore and I'm unable to even watch the tape. Are there photo centers that can do this type of transfer or do I need to send this somewhere?

ABSOLUTLEY! i believe most general photo centers such as a Kinkos or maybe even rite aid will process your 8mm tape into a digital format- either on an sd card or disk. call up radio shack and ask them about it im sure youll find what u r looking 4!

There are 2 parts to this, getting the action picture off the media, and compressing the document. each and every camcorder has a video output, which may be analogue (to play to a television) or digital (Firewire or USB) to deliver to a pc, or both. you want the suitable cable. If the camcorder in basic terms has an analogue output you also want a video-USB adapter. contained in the computer you want modifying software (that would contain the USB adapter). The software received't in basic terms help you to opt for the scenes, that is going to also help you to opt for a decision, and subsequently document length, for the completed product.

Joey's right, There are a few converters on the market that you could plug into your PC. I saw one over ar Sam's Club just yesterday. Next to the security cameras.
