after ending my 4 years relationship, i packed my bag and took off to KL sentral (they have bus, planes and train station there that can take you anywhere in the world every 30 mins or so) and picked a destination (it was thailand) and traveled by myself randomly. meeting cool new people and did a lot of reading too. i brought my guitar and serenated few girls and had so much fun. the trip lasted for 3 weeks and i made so many friends. after the trip, i received my acceptance letter from an american university and did my visa and left. this was almost 4 years ago and i havent been back since then. thus, in a nutshell, i would advice that you should "just do it" and go places and do stuff randomly coz 99% of the time (even more) things WILL work out well, if not good. take it easy and may the force be with you.

What did I do? I was a little self indulgent about the misery I was in and went on to let her ghost haunt my life. Some times you don't get over these things, bra. But sometime it is our own fault.

When we think about sad things often our brains get into like a thought loop. You have to not allow your brain to start traveling the well worn path involving your lost love. Be aware of your train of thought and derail it whenever it slips into that thought loop. Force yourself to think along some other line.

As far as new hobby or travel. Ok, but traveling alone can be too much surrounding yourself with yourself. Personally a good cardio workout puts me in a place where I get motivated and optimistic.

Here's how I did it (in no particular order of importance).

1. realize that if he broke it off with me, he didnt really appreciate me in the first place.
2. spend time with family/friends. meet new people (doesn't mean to get into a new relationship right away though)
3. Realize my happiness is not based on this person being in my life.
4. Know that it was his loss.
5. Forgive. If he did something awful to you, or just by breaking up with you and you're upset over it, forgive him. Once you forgive him you begin to let go.

A new hobby or interest will help disract you for a few hours but in the end the only thing like other people have said is time.

With my first relationship I went out that same night and met someone else. I finished with him so it was easy. The second time, the guy finished me with and i cried for about 3 days straight, couldn't go to work and couldn't eat. by the weekend I was even sick of myself so I put on my dancing shoes and went out with my friends. Best cure ever!! you realise that there are plenty fish in the sea and people do actually want to talk to you. gave me a bit of a confidence boost as well.

I decided to start giving other activites more importance. Soon, all the time i used to spend with her, i was doing something. Eventually, Istarted slacking back, and i ended up, once again with the timetale i'd started with, but i didn't miss anything.

I tried to wear all the skin off my pee pee by sexual abrasion! When I finally came up for air some months later, I could hardly remember her name...the love was gone, but the distaste remained for a long time after.
