Everyone here is telling me I need to take my cat to the vet asap, because she might of got attacked by a raccoon, but I do not know what happened...I know my parents are selfish and I hate them for that, but my dad is hunting and my mom is at work. Is there any way I can help her myself? I do not want her to bite me incase she has rabies, but I dont know if she even has rabies. Like I said before, her eye is stuck shut and her mouth is all bloody and I think her leg may be hurt, but she seems to walk on it fine. I think I should clean the wounds up so they dont get infected, but what do I clean them up with? I have her inside with me in a kennel and there is water in there for her. I am only 13 years old, I do not know what to do and I can not drive her to the vet. I want to help her though...how can I help her?

My cat has been outside for about 4 years, she stays around the house and we only bring her inside when its really cold.
Will Antiseptic Wash work to clean her up?

Hi Allie...do not use hydrogen peroxide despite what everyone says on here. Everyone means well, but if they do not understand medical treatments this can injure your cat further. The problem with hydrogen peroxide and some other traditional debriding agents is that they also damage the healthy cells (keratinocytes and fibroblasts) that are needed for wound healing and inhibit their necessary migration into the damaged area and any vet or human medical doctor can confirm this fact.

Use only antibacterial soap and water--nothing more if she will tolerate it. Please!

Consider calling your friends, maybe one of their parents can help you care for the cat--you must have a friend who has a parent that loves cats and would be willing to help you. She needs to be brought in and confined in a small protective area so she can stay safe, warm and carefully observed until she's seen by a vet.

Again...Here's how to locate 24 hour ER vets in your town ...type in Google the following: 24 hour vet [your city name] then hit enter to see the results. Here's what it looks like to find one in my city "seattle" : http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=24+... Notice the first searched result listed the 24 hour vet?

Oero, our cat had the same thing. He kept using the bathroom in our house (on the bed, floor, couch, and chair) so we put him outside everyday, let him use the bathroom and let him back in. We tried to wacth him since he was declawed as well.
One day he did not come back. We called for him, but he did not come. This was unusal. I got his glass food bowel and hit it with a spoon, he knew this meant food and he always came. But not this time.
We found him, he had been attaked by what we think a coon or another dog. His leg was bloody, lips were bloody and chapped looking and his left eye was shut, and swollen. We could not call the vet so we put him inside and left an emerg. msg. on my brother's friends dad's phone since he is a vet. Explaining the problem. We put him in the bathroom and covered the window. We gave him lot's of blankets and wrapped up his wound on his leg. Then we layed out lot's of water, and some soft food.
Those aren't major signs of rabies. Rabies is when they start chasing there tail, foaming, jumping at stuff in the air, weather it's there or not, and makin weaird noises. Breathing hard. But since she is shy now, she is more than likley just scared. She should be able to eat, Oero was able to eat after we coxaed him enough. There is some vet's open on Sunday's so just call and leave some msg's. Keep him away from the light, and don't try to give him human med.
You should also keep him inside. Oero lived, but another thing like that and he would have died. The world is cruel and hard for a declawed cat who lives outside since they can not defend themselves.
Good Luck and I hoped I helped!!!!

ALLIE
I HAVE TO TYPE THIS IN CAPITAL SO YOU COULD SEE
I AM VERY CONCERNED TO READ THIS, I AM HUGE CAT LOVER AND MUST THANK YOU FOR BEING SO YOUNG YET CARING FOR YOUR PET.

NO, THAT IS NOT RABIES. RABIES IS WHEN THE ANIMAL CHASING THEIR OWN TAILS AND BITE IT.

PLEASE JUST PUT CLEAN COTTON TO STOP THE BLEEDING, DON'T USE ANYTHING ELSE YOU MAYBE TOO YOUNG TO KNOW THE RIGHT MEASUREMENT.
IF THE WOUND IS DIRTY, PLEASE JUST USE WATER AND COTTON TO CLEAN THE WOUND. AS YOU ARE CARING FOR THE CAT, IT WILL NOTICE THIS AND WILL STOP STRUGGLING.
WRAP HER WITH TOWEL AFTER THIS, SO THAT YOU CAN KEEP HER WARM. KEEP THE CAT IN THE LOCKED ROOM SO THAT IT CAN'T GO OUT UNTIL YOU CAN FIND MEDICAL HELP. PUT THE CAT FOOD, WATER AND BASKET IN THE SAME ROOM JUST IN CASE THE CAT NEEDS IT.
WHEN THE STRESS IS OVER, YOUR CAT SHOULD BE ABLE TO OPEN HER EYES LITTLE BY LITTLE. BE WITH THE CAT AS MUCH AS YOU CAN, AND MENTION YOUR AGE WHEN YOU CALL FOR HELP.

TALK TO YOUR NEIGHBOR OR FRIEND. SOMEONE WILL BE ABLE TO LOCATE A VET OR EMERGENCY VET. YOU MAY ALSO CALL 911 AND EXPLAIN YOUR SITUATION, THEY MAY BE ABLE TO HELP YOU.

I'm sorry you have to go through this alone Allie.

Take a damp clothe and gently clean the wounds. Please make sure to wash your hands after touching her and try to wear gloves. She could have something besides rabies. Cats can carry a lot of different illnesses. Keep her away from any other pets to.

If you can find one call an emergency vet clinic, I have had them give me advice over the phone. Tell them your 13 and can't get her to them. Many times if you call one that isn't open their answering machince can refer you to an emergency number.

Maybe there's a friend or neighbor that could help you?

You have anyone to drive you such as aunts uncles friends, or sit down and talk politely with your parents and tell them how important the cat is to you. You dont want to do anything that can be hurting your cat more. You dont want to put any of that stuff next to her mouth. But if shes wounded in a place get like a Q-tip and dip in peroxide ONLY IF THE WOUND IS NOT THAT DEEP. If its very very deep you cant use peroxide

Best of Luck
God Bless

hello,
from experience you need to put a warm towl on the eye to see if the eye will open, then put peroxide on the open wounds and triple antibotic or neosporen on the open sores so nothing will infect them.and try to keep the cat in the kennel untill the blood stops...and make sure its not in pain by rubbing the cat as if you were petting it...it will take time to heal.....but rabies is very rare sience the 1970's and not that many cases in the u.s and when your parents get home just tell them the situation and what happened....every thing will be okay....don't panic......cats have 9 lives......

here's what i think you should do, get a warm washcloth gently clean her mouth, you can take a little bit of cold water and warm water and i'll say this again,GENTLY rub the rag over her eye once and only once. If you have a house phone and your mom or dad has a cell phone i would tell them about it, or if that does'nt work look through the phone book for a vet that's closest to you and tell them about it. please do not use peroxide or any chemicals whatsoever! you can use neosporen on her mouth dont use chemicals please. Tell your parents if her condition worsens. But nine chances out of ten she will heal her self if you use water like i said b4. Cats dont have nine lives they only have one, please use caution. In doing all of this use gloves so you dont get bitten. I hope this helps.

Don't use Hydrogen peroxide for this type of deep wound. It will heat up and further damage the tissue. The best thing is to use chlorinated water or a little bleach in the water (1 tbsp to a gallon) to kill the surface organisms. Antibiotics have a hard time getting through the healing tissue. As this tissue heals, it is very resistant to infection but the serum that oozes out of the wound needs to be removed.

It's gonna be hard for your cat to stay still.Try to kepp her in one place.

AAW ! omg, I am only 13 myself so what I would suggest is as follows :

1) Talk to the cat going sssshhhh it's going to be ok--it might sound dumb but the cat might be in pain and a little re-assurance will help/
2)Give the cat a pain killer????? Might that work?
3)Put her/him in a bath to about her knees ( warm water )
4) call your mum & dad
5) Continue your life as a teenager like me
