I have very dark brown almost black curly/wavy hair.

I was thinking of adding some color to it........highlighting...!!!
Can you'll give me some ideas as to what colors I should go for.

First, if you have never put any chemical and you need a change, then I would advise you to relax your hair.
it will bring a change.

but if you like your curly hair and want hi-lite,
1..consider your skin color first...............if your skin is medium,hi-lite it with fine lines of light brown, auburn or burgendy color.
2...if you are fair go for dark or medium blond

Personally, I would go for something really funky, like a few bright red highlights. If that is not really your style though, try just a shade lighter than your natural hair color, like chestnut brown, not something cheesy like caramel, because natural looking highlights will make you look hotter. Also, something cheesy looking like blond would overwhelm your hair, because it is textured. So maybe red would not be the best idea, since you have wavy hair. I really think you should try something natural. Go to your salon, and tell them you want natural looking highlights, they will help you find the best color for you, meaning don't try to give yourself highlights at home, it is very difficult, and will not turn out right. Good luck!

first you need to have a full head hair color in the shade of medium blonde or light brown. wait for two weeks before getting a highlight so that your hair doesnt get damaged by double processing. they will then apply highlights. the nice color that would go well with that is light blonde. since your hair is very dark the light blonde will not appear light at all. it would just appear as ash blonde or light brown.

If you wish suttle highlights you might consider a red tone
and if you want vibrant highlights go with blond
it will not come out as light as you would like unless the areas of highlighting are completely bleached out.
A salon might be the place to start where you might get the best kind of results and they might offer suggestions on the colour choices.

I have dk.brown/black hair - I get drk auburn highlights mostly, sometimes I've gone with ash brown highlights too.

But, get it done professionally if it is possible, I tried those packaged ones and my hair turns coppery or orange - very icky looking.

Exactly why is everyone with blond, why can't you just have jet black tresses with some blonde or blonde tresses with some jet black hair. Now you don't have to choose.
