there are CCTV cameras in the gym, he decided to have a workout and was busted and prompty lost his job.
his own private office isn't monitored by cameras and contains heavy things like wheelie bins and heavy planks of wood. he could've had a ghetto style workout and still have kept his job, seems like such a waste and further evidence that big brother is watching us all.

Well rules are rules. If he wasnt suppose to be working out while on company time, then they were within their rights. There is plenty of time to get in a work out when you are not at work.

Depends on the rules of the office. If the boss has made it clear that no one is supposed to use the gym whilst on duty, then that guy has crossed the line.

When you meet a strict boss in such cases, he/she can fire you right away . He paid his employees to work, not to "workout" during office hours.

Typically, corporations with onsite workout facilities setaside hours for workers to use them. It is typically before or after standard work hours--or during lunch break, if granted one.

If the worker went when he had scheduled standard office hours then dismissal was for using gym on company time.

that's his fault for working out during work time and being irresponsible. but i think that's a little harsh to be fired just cause you worked out rather just being on probation or something. i mean, why have a gym in the building then rite?
