If they really believe that we worship statues, then they don't know the "whole doctrineof the Catholic faith."
That's because statue-worship is specifically banned by the First Commandment -- which is why we Catholics don't worship statues.
You can tell your friends that the presence of statues in a Catholic church does not mean that we are worshipping them. After all, there are a lot of other things in the church too -- windows, lights, candles, maybe a carpet or a nice tile or marble floor -- but that doesn't mean we are worshipping those things.
Also, some people will pray before a statue (though this isn't as common as it was years ago). This does not mean, however, that we are praying to the statue. In such a case, the statue is simply being used as an aid in prayer or worship -- which is entirely sanctioned by the Bible, by Exodus 25 and 26 specifically.

Because that is what they are being taught at home. There are lots and lots of people who say they are one faith or another and then don't follow all the teachings of that faith ... actually, I think anyone who things they have fully discerened the wholeness of God and therefore have the exactly right way are a bit confused about the difference between an awesome God and religion.

Protest as much as you want to that Catholics do not worship statues, but obviously they do. Any religion that can muster enough people to form double lines down the street to see the "miracle" of the face of this or that minor god figure in a pile of dog poop or on a toasted cheese sandwich, has people who worship statues.

Anyone who thinks Catholics worship statues, especially the thought we worship the Blessed Virgin, are just illiterate to the doctrine of the church.
It s not for them to judge you or vice verso....that's up to God.
Continue your faith and seek knowledge.

The Catholic church is a non-Christian cult. They teach Mary was sinless, but God's Word says ALL have sinned. The Catholic church is calling God's Word a lie.
So, do you want to follow Jesus or the Catholic church? Because you can't do both, you can't serve two masters.

i'm a catholic too. and for some reason, there are many catholics who worship idols; they even wipe their hankies, etc. on statues and wipe it on themselves so that they would get the blessing of that certain saint.

it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the influence of pagan Rome in the Catholic tradition. Your friends simply see it as it is apart from the meaning the church attaches to it.

because they DO.
i was raised catholic and left it as soon as i could.
once i was no longer living with my parents i quit going to catholic churches.
the catholics are full of contradictions. they do worship statues. they do not follow the teachings of the bible. they are more concerned about formality than about actually teaching people the word of god. etc... etc... etc...

When they were in school with you, they just went through the motions. Anyone who participates in a religion on that shallow of a level will of course not fully understand it.
