My cat is an outdoor cat. She used to live inside, but my parents made her start living outside. She is declawed and I feel really bad for her, because she has no way to defend herself. Yesterday my dad went hunting and when he came home he found her laying next to the house. Her left eye is stuck closed and its all watering and her bottom lip is all scraped up and bloody, but THE VET IS CLOSED. I don't know what happened to her, but I think she might of been attacked by a raccoon and I think she may have rabies now, because she isnt acting like herself at all. She is drooling and making really wierd breathing sounds and she is really shy now. She won't respond to any noise at all, but I dont think she likes light. I don't know what to do. Right now we have her in a little kennel and I put some water in there for her and my dad bought some soft cat food for her, but I dont know if she can eat it, because of her mouth. What should I do?!?!?!

Oero, our cat had the same thing. He kept using the bathroom in our house (on the bed, floor, couch, and chair) so we put him outside everyday, let him use the bathroom and let him back in. We tried to wacth him since he was declawed as well.
One day he did not come back. We called for him, but he did not come. This was unusal. I got his glass food bowel and hit it with a spoon, he knew this meant food and he always came. But not this time.
We found him, he had been attaked by what we think a coon or another dog. His leg was bloody, lips were bloody and chapped looking and his left eye was shut, and swollen. We could not call the vet so we put him inside and left an emerg. msg. on my brother's friends dad's phone since he is a vet. Explaining the problem. We put him in the bathroom and covered the window. We gave him lot's of blankets and wrapped up his wound on his leg. Then we layed out lot's of water, and some soft food.
Those aren't major signs of rabies. Rabies is when they start chasing there tail, foaming, jumping at stuff in the air, weather it's there or not, and makin weaird noises. Breathing hard. But since she is shy now, she is more than likley just scared. She should be able to eat, Oero was able to eat after we coxaed him enough. There is some vet's open on Sunday's so just call and leave some msg's. Keep him away from the light, and don't try to give him human med.
You should also keep him inside. Oero lived, but another thing like that and he would have died. The world is cruel and hard for a declawed cat who lives outside since they can not defend themselves.
Good Luck and I hoped I helped!!!!

OMG honey, that's just awful.
First off I wouldn't worry about rabies cause I'm sure she's had her shots. Right?
It sounds like she's got maybe a good scratch on her nose which would cause her to drool and to wheeze when she breaths. Unless she has a chest injury you missed. Make sure you check for that. In the meantime, just make her as comfortable as possible. You might try rinsing her eye out with some warm water, if it doesn't make her too uncomfortable..
Your Dad will take her to the vet tomorrow? I hope so.....
Poor thing. Just hang in there. Cats are pretty resilient.....
Make that call though first thing in the morning....
Good luck! !

Is there an emergency animal hospital near you? If not call the police for the number of animal control. Do NOT touch the cat if you think she has rabies.
It is cruel to declaw a cat and then make her an outdoor cat. This is inhumane treatment.
I hope for your sake the cat doesn't have rabies. If she did not have all of her shots updated, the only solution would be euthanasia.

oh hunny u poor thing, listen im a vet tech and it sounds as if either it was a racoon or your cat was defending off a rival cat or a male that was trying to mate. get some sterile saline solution and clean her up as well as you can, its ok to gently clean her eyes with it. comfort and sooth her the best you can for the time being. with all do respect you should never declaw a cat and force them to live outside, if you must do that then give her up to the ASPCA and they will find her a good home suitable for a declawed cat. good luck i hope your cat is ok.

If your vet is closed, theres usually a few animal hospitals in every city that work 24 hours and that only deal with emergencies. You can search online for them.
Good luck & best wishes with your cat! =]

that cat should not be out side declawed.your parents wont let you leave her in your room..sometimes my cats eyes would get like that.i would put a warm tea bag on it or a cool rag helps too.for her mouth try a Little peroxide and water.and look in the phone book alto of places have emergency hospitals for cats and dogs.this should show your mom that this poor cat cant defend her self.

Most areas have an emergency vet or at least someone taking call for emergencies. Call your vet's number and see if they have another number for emergencies. Your cat sounds really sick and in need of a vet's attention. Good Luck.

Sounds like you need to start shopping for a new cat.
And you'd better hope that nobody turns you in for cruelty to animals for making a declawed (and hence defenseless) cat live outdoors.

sounds like anmal abuse NO ONE SHOULD EVER PUT A DECLAWED ANIMAL OUTSIDE! I cant believe anyone would be the ignorant. The person that put that cat outside should be shaved and stripped of everything and left outside to fend for it's self!
you need to get that animal turned in to animal control since you and your family arent going to take care of it.
