Sometimes waking life is very surreal. Just ask yourself if you are dreaming and then try to make something change--turn your car into a bicycle, for instance--if nothing happens, you are awake. If you form the habit of asking yourself and testing while awake, you will do it while asleep, which will lead to lucid dreaming. Unfortunately, once you realize you are dreaming the natural impulse is to wake up, but with practice you can stay in your dream, ask questions, and have fun. I've done it.

Yes, very occaisonally, this is also related to Lucid dreams when asleep and dreaming and know you are dreaming, This reality is an illusion, all be it a very powerful one, and is completley contructed within the brain.
