You should run tests on your C drive. Here's how.

Open My Computer, then Right Click on the C drive and pick PROPERTIES. Go to the TOOLS section and click on CHECK NOW. Check both boxes to fix files and attempt to fix bad sectors. When you click OK, it will ask you if you want to test after restarting, so click YES. Restart your computer, so that the full test will run. This might take an hour.

Yes, you should get a UPS to hold your computer together. If your power outages are less than 10 Seconds, you do not need to worry about getting an expensive one. But if you want your computer to stay alive for 15 minutes or longer, you would need to invest in a good one.

One small disadvantage of a UPS is that the batteries will only work for a few years. ASK about replacement batteries if you buy an expensive one. In many cases, the replacement batteries cost as much or MORE than the original unit.

Let's hope that your power interruption problems go away someday soon. You should file a complaint against the power company.

Good luck

Windows might get corrupted.. even your hard drive might get damaged if the crash happens while it is reading or writing data... use an UPS (uninterrupted power supply) and work with peace of mind.. it's not too costly
