And why is this?

Please don't just say Oysters make you feel randy or than with Mulligan stew usually goes the Guinness.

This question could be a metaphor if you like!

Do you mean Mulligatawny? (curry stew). Yep... my choice but what if the new person isn't into spicy stuff. And oysters are also a challenge for the first time taster... ( i would have a hard time convincing myself to swallow what felt like a large, cold snot ball - sorry)

Why not try something less adventurous until you know what tastes you have in common... That's far better that having them fake their enjoyment of the dinner then never coming back

steak and salad with a vegetarian side dish would be more successful - and a choice of red and white wine and a soft drink

save the spice and champagne for the next date ;-D

Champagne and oysters is so overrated its beyond a joke. Expensive for no real reason at all, I'd rather have a well cooked meal whatever it is and a full bodied wine to enjoy with it and after it and that for me is a lot better than oysters which are basically tasteless and nasty.
