I have had a dandruff problem and of course, this caues me to itch my scalp which then weakens my hair. This has caused hair to fall out. What can i do to help my scalp, and will the thickness of my hair be restored eventually?

Have you seen a dermatologist to get your scalp condition accurately diagnosed? Nizoral shampoo works the best for me. It's available over the counter, although there is also a prescription strength version.

Use warm, not hot water when you shampoo. Hot water irritates your scalp, and the rest of your skin, even if you think it feels wonderful to have a hot steamy shower.

Keep your scalp happy; if you use conditioner, do not put it on your scalp. After you rinse out your conditioner, follow with a cool water rinse. Add about a tablespoon of vinegar to a cup of water and be sure it gets on your scalp. It will also help seal the cuticle on the rest of your hair. Obviously, you may need to use 2 tablespoons and a pint of water if you have long hair. Just keep diluting in the same proportion. Leave the vinegar on for maybe a minute and finish with a cool water rinse.

What really made the biggest difference for me was when I got a shower filter. The water here is very hard and full of minerals that coat the scalp and hair. At the very least, you could try rinsing with filtered water. Sometimes when my dandruff was really acting up, I just left the vinegar rinse in. It won't hurt your hair or scalp if you do so.

And yes, your hair will grow back properly once you get the scalp happy. Remember -- happy scalp, happy hair.

I know how frustrating this can be. I hope you get back to a healthy scalp and hair.

it all depends on ur ethnicity. i had the same problem, and im black. i went to the doctor and he said that i shouldn't have been using dandruff shampoo cuz its not ment for black ppl, it jst makes their hair thinner and weaker. he gave me this medicine that i apply only once every week. i haven't had a single flake since then. if u can't get this medicine, then use peanut oil. apply it to ur scalp and massage it thuroughly the night b4 u wash ur hair. go to sleep with a shower cap on ur hair, and tie a bandana over it. next morning wash the oil out and go through ur normal process.
