My cat is an outdoor cat. She used to live inside, but my parents made her start living outside. She is declawed and I feel really bad for her, because she has no way to defend herself. Yesterday my dad went hunting and when he came home he found her laying next to the house. Her left eye is stuck closed and its all watering and her bottom lip is all scraped up and bloody, but the vet is closed. I don't know what happened to her, but I think she might of been attacked by a raccoon and I think she may have rabies now, because she isnt acting like herself at all. She is drooling and making really wierd breathing sounds and she is really shy now. She won't respond to any noise at all, but I dont think she likes light. I don't know what to do. Right now we have her in a little kennel and I put some water in there for her and my dad bought some soft cat food for her, but I dont know if she can eat it, because of her mouth. What should I do?!?!?! My parents told me to forget about her...

Hi Allie...cyoaza is correct. Cruelty to animals refers to treatment which causes unacceptable suffering or harm to animals. The animal cruelty laws states that if any of the following criteria occurred this is prosecutable.

- Signs of pet abuse include:
- Unusually frightened, fearful or subdued
- Fractures
- Bruising
- Eye injuries
- Scalds and burns
- Munchausen’s Syndrome by Proxy (MSP)
- Signs of malnutrition
- Significant matting or other poor grooming indicators
- Ignored health problems
- Injury history incompatible with injury or owner refuses to comment on how injury occurred
- ***Owner shows lack of concern for animal’s injuries***

Please consider finding a friend to take the kitty to the vet as soon as possible and perhaps you can make a plea with the vet to take your kitty and find her a home since your parents don't care about her. ---sorry this is so disheartening to hear that someone doesn't care about an animal who is a living and breathing soul.

First off: declawed cats must always be kept inside, this is part of getting them declawed - if you can't keep them inside once they are declawed then you should find them a home where they can stay inside.
You need to take her to the vet urgently if you think she may have rabies. Your parent's don't sound very responsible, you can't just forget about her and leave her to die. You really need to take her to the vet ASAP. Make sure she is warm enough in the kennel - a rug would be good in the meantime before you can get her to a vet.

First of all, your parents are cold and heartless people. They should be shot. Your only option is to take the cat to a vet. It has been seriously injured and may die. Ask a relative or neighbor if they can help you take her to the vet. Tell them the situation and they may be able to help.

Sending a declawed defenseless housecat into a world were survival is crucial is inhumane and heartless. Throw the parents out and keep the cat. It's good to know you have not received the heartless genes from them. Please find a way to get it to the vet.

Good luck.

Allie, your cat needs to see a vet. If your parents are unwilling to seek medical attention this would be construed as animal cruelty and they could be prosecuted if anything bad should happen to this cat. You need to tell them this and if they don't believe you call the local animal shelter (SPCA/Humane Society) anonymously and ask them about the animal cruelty laws about denying necessary medical care for an injured pet. This is definitely one of the guidelines to take away a pet from your family because if mistreatment.

If your parents are unwilling to get medical help, I truly think you need to find someone who can adopt the kitty to help her or she could become quite ill or worse die. If she does die your parents will be in a world of trouble legally.
