I had been taking Topamax for the past 3 years. When you start taking topamax it is gradual. You should start out at 25mg a day and work up to to dosage that you need to help with whatever health issue you are taking it for. Needless to say I was up to 400mg a day for my migraines. My lips and hands always felt tingly. I started to forget little things, and it seemed as if I was stuttering. Basically, I knew what I was trying to say, but the words didn't come out that way. It does make you lose weight, but only at the higher dosages. When I started taking it I was wearing a size 16, and now I am in a size 10. I just recently stopped taking it, I am in between insurance right now and without insurance it is $300. Plus I recently found out that I have a kidney stone, that was probably caused by the topamax, because if you don't drink ALOT of water while you are on it you will develop kidney stones. The doctor is supposed to tell you that, which mine didn't, and I definately don't drink enough water. Now I have the task of finding another migraine medication that works as well as topamax, without the side effects.

I took Topamax for a week. One 25 mg pill a day and it made me slightly nauseous, gave me a headache and made me really anxious for about an hour. It also made me very moody and argumentative. It's migraine medicine and it was prescribed for me for bipolar disorder as a mood stabilizer. I called the Topamax helpline and spoke to a nurse and she said stop taking it right away. Headaches and mood changes are serious side effects for anyone taking it, not just because I'm bipolar. She also told me it's FDA approved only to treat migraines and seizures and doesn't have the properties to be used as a mood stabilizer soley by itself. Go to the Topamax website and call them. She was really helpful - she told me without "telling me" that my doctor doesn't know what he's doing in prescribing this for me.

I have been on Topamax for years now. It is a Godsend. I the doc put me on Depakote for Bipolar disorder and my weight shot through the roof. I have aways been a slim person all my life. and I gained up to 195lbs.. My face look bloated...I was so depressed. I talked to my MD a close friend of mine that I grew up with and he said that there was a new med called Topamax it was not approved for Bipolar but they had some success. He said to ask my doctor that was treating me for it.

Well, I did and she agreed to try me on it along with my Depakote. She took slowly took away part of my Depakote and replaced it with Topamax. Now I am still taking Depakote mind you, but Topamax also. Within the 1st week, I started to drop a few lbs. and every week after that. I lost down to about to about 135lbs.

I also walked during this time...but I had been doing this before I started the Topamax and could not lose the weight at all...

I haven't had anyside effects to the meds I am doing great on them...

Talk to your Doctor if you have any questions....

I even have fibromyalgia and that's what i began the Lyrica for; i became later dx'ed with diabetes (now foodstuff plan controlled). i became already on soreness meds yet they did no longer help that plenty; now, mixed with Lyrica, i've got self belief plenty greater desirable. I nonetheless have undesirable days yet they are fantastically rare. Lyrica is properly rather worth the cost, and that i haven't any area outcomes from it. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, I even tend to no longer have many area outcomes from drugs - nonetheless I even have experienced some over the years.

My experience as bipolar on Topomax was stupidity. Sincerely, I felt slow in responding to questions, like I lost my memory, and just duh! My friend had the exact same experience.
