Is it better to use non-fat milk or water in blended protein shakes?

It's somewhat preference (to taste). If you use milk it has more calories, but it also adds about 8g of protein. I personally think milk tastes better as well. If you do milk and some ice and stick it in the blender, you can almost pretend it's a shake. I like to add a little cool whip to mine because it makes it thicker, like a shake and it's 0 cal.

It would be helpful if you told us WHY you are drinking the shakes in the first place. If you are trying to bulk up, go milk. If you are doing meal replacement (hopefully no more than 1 meal per day) go milk-less. As far as flavor is concerned, the brand of protein shake makes a big difference; one brand I use tastes fantastic with just cold water, but the other doesn't and needs the milk for flavor.

It actually depends on your preference. I use low-fat or skim milk on mine. It does add calories but you'll benefit from the extra protein as well. Also, water really thins out the shake, making it less enjoyable for me. It also depends on your brand. Some brands have very rich protein shakes that go fine with plain water.

It's a matter of choice I would go with milk, it's a little watery and gross with water

Really it depends on the Shake you are preparing and why you are drinking the shakes.

I would suggest reading the directions on the label.
