I took my HDD out of my PC and put it in a USB enclosure so that I can copy my files to my notebook before I restore my PC to facory settings. Now I cant copy the files to my Notebook because I dont have access, as I am not on my original PC as the original user. WHAT CAN I DO??? This is really frustrating as I need to save my files before my HDD is formatted. The files are in ''my documents'' folder. My PC doesnt work anymore as one of the windows files are corrupt. The only way to fix this would be to do a system restore, and this will format my HDD. How do I get my files? Both my PC and Notebook runs Windows XP.

Can you set up an account on your PC with the original user name and password? Once you created this account, login to your PC using it. Then, you should be able to access the folder again. Another thing, you should be able to access any folder if you have admin access.

Hi. First, a system restore does not format your HD, it goes back to a point saved either by you or automatically. The file attributes can be changed to allow a copy.
