Abreva, Releev, and a few other OTC products work. You can save a lot of money and put some alcohol on a Q-tip and rub the surface as hard as you can stand it for a few seconds. HURTS LIKE HECK, but this is pretty much the same as the $10-20 products mentioned above. You might also want to get some OraJel or other benzocaine 20% product. Rub that one the sore first and after a couple of minutes, do the alcohol rub. You can also apply some benzocaine before a meal if it really hurts to eat.
You can also rinse with Maalox before a meal. (yuck) You can spit it out, though, instead of swallowing it. It coats them and helps relieve some of the pain.

I overheard someone say that salt works on healing, mix tablespoon of salt w/tall glass of warm water. swish it around in yer mouth, spit and do it again. It basically works on the same principle as a pearl oyster. an oyster gets a speck of sand lodged inside and begins to wrap pearl spit on it so the sand becomes less irritating for the oy. the difference is that canker is no oyster is it? but it must feel like one though. Now the salt will irritate the canker and you. you will need to put up with the irritation till you have swished and spit out that whole glass of salt water. give it a try. sorry no refunds.

I used (and it really worked) baking soda in the following way to get rid of canker sore: Brush you teeth with backing soda or apply it directly on the sores to reduce the amount of bacteria in the mouth. Other home remedies that my family use are: Boil four broken cinnamon sticks in a cup of water and gurgle Prepare a mouthwash using three parts of water and one part of Onion juice or apply some raw onions to the ulcer. Mix 2 teaspoon of salt with 6 ounces of warm water and gurgle.

I have always used a product called Campho Phenic and combined with L-lysine, it works great for reducing pain and taking care of the sore at its earliest stages.. The attached site has great ideas as well.

You can spends tons of money on every store item for canker sores (cold sores) and I have the perfect...works EVERY TIME...homeade recipe to get rid of pain and the cold sore itself! I know you will think this is nutz...but it works. Rub "secret" deodarant on it. Seriously. (Not the one in your mouth. the external one.) Works every time...and always. Especially do it when it first starts that tingling feeling and itchy feeling when you know one is coming. Will prevent the outbreak.

I use plain alum. You can get it in the spice department. It tastes kind of bad but you will be amazed. Your canker will be gone overnight!
