Learning a new language is one of the achievements in life....
As per my knowledge all humans know atleast one language from birth known as mother tongue....and then as they grow up, their surroundings or the environment they live teach them some other languages (Depends on one's interest )....Apart from this if one learns another language it is really an achievement and nothing else....
You will gain the following benefits by learning a new language :
1) Since man is a social animal you can be connected to people from different regions / society......
2) Your knowledge increases
3) There is a great chance of getting a helping hand when in need since you have a great circle of people.......
4) There is a chance of making new experiments
with your language too.....
etc..

Greater communication with others is a world skill. It helps you for the smallest thing to larger things. As and example say you learn Spanish and either take a trip to Mexico or even go to a Mexican part of town to buy something. You would have the skills to communicate and perhaps get a better price on something.
On the bigger scale if you have a skill of more than one language you open up the possiblity of even a interesting career. Translators are needed all the time.
My wife speaks three languages. It is often interesting to go someplace where people are speaking spanish and not thinking anyone of a different ethnic group does not know what they are
saying, when in fact she will sometimes comment and they get very quiet after that.

Learning a new language opens up the ability to speak with people who may or may not understand your language to its fullest capacity. It will allow you to be more social at work possibly, in your neighborhood, or even at home where your children might have friends who speak that language.
I have found that speaking another language has been to my advantage, because if the person doesn't know I can understand what they are saying, and they are speaking negatively about me, I know then who my friends can be. Its a tough choice, but sometimes worth it.
Good luck with your choice. I speak Serbian, and the only place I can really use that is church...I suggest Spanish. Its becoming the second most spoken language in the country.

You gain not only the ability to visit said foreign country and learning customs as well, but you become a vital buisness asset depending on the language(s) you learn. Some translators can earn $70,000+ a year, and if you have more than three languages under your belt, your possibilities are endless.
If you are going the money route, I suggest Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese and Japanese. These are high demand buisness languages.

Normally, you learn a different perspective. And if you ever travel to the country of the language you're learning, you can appreciate it beyond a tourist perspective.
Also, for business and work in general, knowing more than one language has always been an advantage.
What language would you like to learn?

A whole wonderful new way of looking at the world...Not all cultures view the world anything like what we do...their language reflects that....Other than that...learning is one of the greatest gifts/abilities that we have. Knowledge is never wasted.

Its mind expanding because other languages are so different it seems to force you to use parts of your brain you would never use. Same with learning a musical instrument.

You will be able to communicate with more people than if you just knew one language-espically if you are traveling. Plus it looks good on your college application (If you haven't gone to college yet-you didn't say).
