Both are from the cow. Veal is until 6 weeks of age, then baby beef, and finally beef! E-mail lodamee and tell him to do some research before answering questions he knows nothing about!

Veal is beef. There is nothing wrong with cutting them on the same board. Don't cut vegetables or other ingredients on the board without washing it, but cutting different cuts of the same animal is not a problem. Wash between different items like chicken and beef, chicken and fish, fish and beef, etc.

Beef is from a mature bovine, while veal is from immature bovine. The term cow refers to a female bovine, and since most beef comes from castrated males (known as steers) it is likely that the beef that you are eating does not come from a cow.

Don't let them fool you. Beef is from Steer,Veal is also from Steer but they are the calves, male baby Steer that are restricted in thier movements and fed grain so the muscle fibers don't toughen up and become "Red Meat". They are one in the same. There is no "Giddy-up little doggie" in Veal
