First, not all Baptists are Christians.
The Baptist faith was started before Jesus taught or ministered and it was done by Jews.
John the Baptists, was a Jew, who believed in Baptising people over the age of consent (14) who wanted to accept the holy spirit willfully and intentionally.
Hence, not ALL Baptists faiths consider themselves Christians!
The primary difference between the Catholics and Protestants are that the Catholics answer to a Pope who decides things, like all ceremonies must be in Latin or you can't eat meat on Friday or you can't use contraception that is artifical or chemical.
Protestants read the Bible and make up their own minds, even if it conflicts with the Bible, as in the case of no fault divorce.
Jesus said you can divorce or set aside for adultry, Catholics don't even allow that, so even they can go against the Bible it would seem.
Hence, any Protestant can do anything they'd like, because they are taking personal responsiblity for it. It doesn't make it right on an absolute level, it doesn't make it Godly or following in the path of Jesus, but if they can justify it they are allowed to do it under the was the general faith works.
Catholics are not allowed this right and if they violate the rules they can be excommunicated from the church.
Again it doesn't make it right, it doesn't make it Godly or following in the path of Jesus who said "all men should marry" and you can divorce for adutery, neither of which the Catholic churchs follows absolutely for PRiests may not marry and no divorce is allowed only annulments that meet a committe approval.
Saying "The Pope" made me do it won't get you out of trouble with God for doing things wrong, Adam tried that with the apple and it made God even more angry when he said "the woman made me do it!"
Some Catholics use a loophole in the system. They do what they want, go to confession and ask forgiveness and then continue doing the sin.

The difference between Catholic & Protestant is too great a problem to address here, but as far as oral contraceptives......
I never thought of this until my friend told me. She had just gotten married and was doing research on what to use for protection, etc. I know that one kind of the pill she would not take because of the way it works. The egg gets fertilized and then it has no where to grow. The pill affects the uterine wall, etc. She felt that she was purposely killing a fertilized egg, so she choose to use a "preventative" kind of birth control like a barrier or something.

I have never heard a Baptist, ordained or lay, voice opposition to oral contraceptives. Unfortunately, conservatives tend to rely on Roman Catholic social thought to provide answers to questions like this. In this case we are inconsistent, because while the Catholic church forbids artificial contraception, Baptists don't tend to have any problem with it.

The bible tells us to be good stewards. We should not have more children than we can raise properly.
