Give the cat time for its personality to come out.

I personaly enjoy giving cats names based on Egyptian Gods or Godesses such as Bast, Isis, Horus, ECT.

Also, look in baby name books or name the cat after your favorite character from a book or movie that you think fits the cats personality.

I have a cat named Autumn and the other named Horus.

Boy or girl? Long-haired or short? What color? What breed? What special traits does the cat have (playful... sleepy... cuddly... b*tchy... friendly?) What kind of things/hobbies do YOU enjoy? These answers can help us come up with really COOL names.

For instance, I enjoy astronomy and science-related hobbies. I currently have a Tonkinese boy named Schrodinger (after a quantum physicist who proposed a rather devious thought experiment involving a cat, a box, a beta particle and a vial of prussic acid... Google it for more gory details! Rest assured, no cats were harmed in the conception of this experiment, either in the classical or the quantum domain!)

I had a female Himalayan kitty named Kepler after Johannes Kepler, a 16th C. astronomer who came up with laws of planetary motion-- the kitten used to "orbit" the house, chasing her ball all the while. I also have a Birman mix named Skye-- a slight spelling change, but related to my interest in weather.

Do you like to read, or do you have a favorite movie or TV show? I also enjoy ancient literature... once I had a pair of Himalayan toms named Beowulf and Hengist, characters from the epic work named "Beowulf". A grumpy boy could be named "Oscar" (the Sesame Street grouch)-- like our clinic cat who's actually sweet at times. I can't tell you how many pets we see named "Frasier", or "Wishbone"... we even have a regular kitty patient named "Thursday Next" because her owner loves the literary-detective series with a lead character by that name.

How about flowers and plants? "Rosie", "Buttercup", "Daisy", and yes, even "Mary Jane"...

Stars and mythology: "Orion" or "Sirius" for a boy, perhaps... "Galaxy", "Comet", "Aurora", or one of the planet names (including Pluto!!) are other possibilities.

Cartoon characters-- "Scooby" or "Snoopy" are fine for cats; "Garfield" or "Heathcliff" are classic/common cat names. How about "D.C." (Darn Cat!) from the Disney movie? Or "Sassy" from the movie "Homeward Bound"?

Names could even be as simple as initials: "B.C." for a black or brindle cat; "O.C." for an orange, etc.

Hope that gets the creative juices flowing!

Just watch your Kitty for a few days and pick a name I had a cat we named Heidi because she hid for three days after we got her another one we named Scraper because he fought all the others in the litter. I had a Black cat that I named Panther because I didn't want the usual names like "Midnight" "Shadow" I had one that I named "Shady Lady" She was also black once, I had a Gray Cat for 16 years that I named Gracie.I had a boy fried who named his cat Digger because he liked to dig hole after hole before he found the right spot in his litter box. Try to stay away from the usual Cat names like Fuzzy. Tiger, Puff, Fluffy ,Midnight, &Snow Ball .I have a friend who has always used people names for her cats even along with middle names. Her cat's name is Billy Bob

I worked at a shelter, and we named all the animals that came in. Of course it is hard to think of a good name sometimes. What I did is went to Baby Names.com, and found names for everything. It had names for cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, etc. You might think that is probably just common names, but it is not. They have from the most common to the craziest. You might have good luck there.

It would help if we knew the sex and coloring of the cat and a bit about it's personality. I like Jake for a male but if you have a girl--Snowflake for a long haired white girl Sno for short, Flake if she turns out not to have much commonsense. Oreo for a sweet natured black and white cat of either sex.
See the problem? More facts please.
Remember "the naming of cats is a serious matter."

I had a cat in my warehouse/workshop to keep the rats away. We called her Nikita after the assassin, which later changed to Makita, as she liked to hang around the tool cupboard. One day she went missing, and a while later the rats returned, so we ended up getting a boy and a girl cat as replacement. I called them Black and Decker, as I always felt they were an inferior substitute for my Makita.
