People can have problems in life and can become addicted to the internet to search for answers to problems. The user thinks that they are in a rare position either way because they think the problem is only discussed so much on the internet and not in the world outside the internet. Making them constantly addicted to the internet and not dealing with the problem outside.

I don't think the internet can make a person mentally ill. However I think it can take someone who has an addictive personality and make it much much worse. People get addicted to things for different reasons and the internet is an easy one and it is something that is not easy to overcome either. No addiction is easy to overcome. My husband is one of those people who has never showed any weakness to addiction, enter the internet, and bam.. there it is. We have fought for five years over this. It isn't a matter of turning off the internet either because I work from home and have to have the internet. He isn't mentally ill but he is addicted.
