Or are they simply charlatans who use the name of God to make money for themselves?

Painting all TV evangelist with the same broad brush is just as wrong as painting all (Fill in the blank) as being lazy, smelly, taking our jobs, etc.

Yes, unfortunately, there have been men who have been into it for the money and have fallen. However, if the gospel, or the good news of Jesus Christ, is being preached, then there are those who are going to hear it, believe in Jesus as their saviour and lord, and follow him, so even if there are some snakes in the grass, I think that TV evangelism, by and large is more positive than negative.

BTW, Pat Robertson has "Operation Blessing" where he DOES help out the needy! That is just one example, there are others who are truly doing God's work.

Let's not be intolerant of ANY group. No one should be intolerant of a nationality group or a political group, but for some reason it is OK to be intolerant of Christians. Let us stop painting all TV evangelists with the same brush just because Jimmy Swaggert et al have done wrong.

Good question! I believe that God "endorses" anyone (TV evangelists, regular church preachers, average people on the street) only if what they are spouting lines up 100% with the Bible. Some TV preachers use just enough Bible to fool the Biblically illiterate and to sound good. Others are/seem to be very sincere. You have to check out the Bible yourself and decide if they are worth listening to.

You get a clown like Benny hinn not a christian but a committed Satanist
in disguise, probably never been baptised not educated never
ordained, unacceptably arrogant, probably on drugs.
He puffs
up his chest rears up on his hind legs, and tells the naive to
applaud his imaginary healings, and takes their money in the
process. Still some come back for more! He's an embrassement
to humanity.

1Co 2:11
For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

Mt 12:33
"Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.

We really can't say but we can look at the fruit.

God endorses His Word .... for He has promised that when His Word goes forth, it will not return void.

God does not need anyone to "endorse" Him; just for people to faithfully proclaim Him.

Those who faithfully proclaim Him MAY find that their "work" prospers. And some may labour for years without seeing results. God does not call people to be successful, just to be faithful.

I haven't seen any written or TV endorsement by God so I'd have to say no

Well the church should really be in your heart, that much I know. I think it is not the medium he would have trouble with. It is the millions of dollars these people scam off innocents in the name of said God. that is the troubling fact here. People can pray and be religious in any context, it is a free service, not a paid one.

I think they're in it for the money and success it brings them. if they were so big on evangelism, they should be traveling to other countries and ministering to all the people who have never even heard the name of Jesus, and not just to film themselves either.

here is another prime example of judging an entire group by a few who have become notorious in their publicity. there are both good and bad in every group and television Evangelists are no different.
