my question is: can faculty and staff have prayer in the school when the children are not there? at my school, during pre-planning, our principal led prayer for the faculty. They also had a religious song that was sung by a singer. the kids were not there that day. is this ok?

I do not mean to be offensive, but questions like this upset me. I do not mean that I am offended by your question, only upset that people feel they need to ask these kinds of questions because of the division happening in society. I understand the need for separation of church and state. However, I belive some people take this waaay too far. This country was founded on the desire for religious freedom! I am not saying that means it's ok to force children to pray in school. And I am not saying that it's ok to force those who wish to pray to stop. Instead we should be free to worships how and when we desire. If you are offended by the way I choose to worship, assuming I am not deliberately trying to be offensive or force my ideals onto you, that is really more your personal problem. With that in mind I will answer your question this way: As long as your faculty and staff have no objections, I am sure it is morally fine. As to whether it might cause some people to get upset and start trouble with you for it, well I'm sure that is a possibility, as is always the case with issues of this nature. I suggest you do what's right in your heart and not worry so much.

No, it isn't legal.

Public officials aren't bound to leave their religious opinions at the door, but incorporating religious ceremonies into the business of running the school is a violation of the establishment clause.

It isn't legal to drive over the speed limit either though, and yet...

If that's something that your group has agreed to do, then I don't see a problem with it. My only concern would be that there might be some in the group who are being required to participate and would rather not.

As long as it doesn't interfere with daily education, I guess it's fine. I'm not sure it is appropriate thought. I would have had a few issues with it...but then I'm difficult and tend to speak up.

By law it is okay at anytime as long as they do not push their views on others.

Kids can do the same thing, even go as far as reading the bible in their free time.

Shouldn't you be getting permission from the school board before you use the school for a free church meeting?

Yes, why not? And even if you can't pray aloud in school, you can pray to GOD silently in your mind.

Why not? This is part of why it is great to live in America...freedom to worship. There are no kids there to offend, so why not?
